CBC VANCOUVER'S TOQUE SESSIONS PRESENTS JOHN MANN HERE AND NOW ON NOVEMBER 19

 

 

 

 

VANCOUVER, B.C. - CBC Vancouver
will present a special edition of the popular winter concert series, The Toque
Sessions, on November 19 at 7:30 pm called John
Mann Here and Now
. This concert will feature John Mann performing with
Spirit of the West. Craig Northey and
Kendel Carson will also perform. This free concert will take place in CBC’s
Studio 40 and will be hosted by CBC News Vancouver’s Andrew Chang.


Mann, who recently went public with his diagnosis of
early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, will be the focus of this CBC produced live
event which will also be filmed for broadcast on CBC TV.


“This unique CBC-produced special is part of our
commitment to showcase great, local Canadian talent,” says Johnny Michel,
senior managing director, CBC British Columbia and Alberta. “This isn’t just a
concert. It’s a full broadcast experience from the live event, to the radio and
tv broadcasts.”


“John is a local musical icon,” says Michael Juk,
producer, CBC Vancouver. “He continues to inspire and entertain audiences and
we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate his amazing work.”


Spirit of the West
was one of the most popular Canadian bands of the early 1990’s and remains one
of the best loved acts in their hometown of Vancouver. Known for their upbeat blend of folk, celtic,
rock and punk the band was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame in
2014 at their annual St Patrick’s Day show at the Commodore Ballroom in
Vancouver.


Craig Northey,the lead singer for the Vancouver power pop
band The Odds, will be joining Mann on stage. He has composed music for a
variety of films and TV shows including Kids In the Hall, Hiccups, and Corner
Gas. Also on stage is Kendel Carson. A
violinist who has performed with National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the
Victoria Symphony, Spirit of the West, The Paper Boys, and Belle Star.

A rush line will also be in effect on November 19
starting at 6:30 pm.
