FAQ

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section provides clarification on how to use the CBC Media Centre.

Annual renewable accreditation

Upon confirmation of your application, your accreditation to the Media Centre is renewable each year on the date of your registration. You'll receive a notice a few days before the due date inviting you to update and confirm your profile information.

Benefits of being accredited

Only accredited members of the CBC Media Centre have access to assets including photos, videos (including episode screeners), audio, and press kits. They will also receive press releases and other announcements directly via email, as well as occasional event invites.

Password

The password you choose when applying for accreditation is active from the moment your accreditation is confirmed.

If you are unable to log in to the CBC Media Centre access page, click on the "Reset Password" link and enter your email address to reset your password.

Once you are logged in, you can change your password at any time by clicking on "My Profile" at the top of the page.

Navigation: log in and log out

Your session begins when you enter the CBC Media Centre with your password. As long as you have not logged out by clicking "Log Out" at the top of the page, you will be able to navigate to the CBC Media Centre.

As long as you are logged in, a session can remain open for a maximum of three (3) days; you will be able to leave and return to the CBC Media Centre as many times as you wish without having to identify yourself again.

Profile

At any time, you can update your information in the "MY PROFILE" section, including change your password.

Advanced search

The search engine allows you to quickly search for announcements or their attachments (documents, audio, videos, photos) by using keywords.

Advanced search lets you find content by restricting specific criteria.

Security

The CBC Media Centre offers journalists and members of the media advanced access to exclusive content for professional use as well as the opportunity to preview episodes.

Only members of the CBC Media Centre can access these parts of the site, with the password they chose when applying for accreditation. This accreditation is granted on the basis that they agree to comply with the terms and conditions of use and that information will be handled according to the guidelines expressed in this agreement.

If you are a member of the media, you may apply for accreditation through the “MY PROFILE" page. Each application is reviewed by the CBC PR team, and granted on a case by case basis.

Content download

Yes, it is possible to download files and photos that are attached to announcements or through the search engine by clicking on the "Download" button. If you don't see the "Download" button  or if the content doesn't appear in the Download Gallery, the content may be rights-managed or otherwise restricted to be viewed only on the CBC Media Centre, and can't be downloaded.

Some video content may be available for download from time to time in a media package within a press release. However, it may be possible to obtain specific videos and clips by request. Contact the CBC PR team by email directly at cbcpr@cbc.ca or view  contact info on relevant press releases.

All downloadable items are displayed in the Download Gallery of the announcement pages (photos, press releases, press kits, audio and video files may be available).

It is also possible to search using the site’s search engine. You can type in a keyword and select the format tab relevant to your need.

Early access and exclusive program previews

Advanced access to programs or episode screeners is provided to members of the media through the CBC Media Centre. Members are notified by email when programs or episode screeners are available for a limited time, and agree to abide by the terms and conditions of use attached to the material that is made available to them.

The CBC Media Centre viewer is compatible with all browsers such as Firefox, Edge, Safari, Opera or Google Chrome.
