IT'S ROYALS MONTH ON THE CBC WITH FIVE NEW DOCUMENTARIES

Starting Sept. 12, five exclusive documentarieson the modern monarchy
to air on CBC-TV

This September, Royals Month is filled to the brim with royal rapture with all-new documentaries that examine the key players of the modern-day monarchy. Starting with Elizabeth: Wife, Queen, Mother on Friday, Sept. 12, five new documentaries will show a new side of the royals as we’ve never seen them before. They’re fly-on-the-wall insider accounts of life in the modern monarchy with exclusive interviews with the Royal Family and insiders who know them best.

The five documentaries include:

  • Elizabeth: Queen, Wife, Mother (Friday, Sept. 12 @ 8/8:30 p.m. NT on CBC-TV - North American premiere) - An intimate account of Queen Elizabeth’s life as told by those closest to her, featuring rare interviews from her family members.

  • William & Kate: First Year (Friday, Sept. 19 @ 8/8:30 p.m. NT on CBC-TV - Canadian premiere) - An insider’s account of their young marriage, featuring all the juicy details and gossip from their wedding and life in the limelight.

  • William & Kate: In the South Seas Islands (Friday, Sept. 26 @ 8/8:30 p.m. NT on CBC-TV - Canadian premiere) - How will this new generation of royals represent the monarchy and charm the public? This documentary takes a look at their Diamond Jubilee Tour in the South Sea Islands.

  • Prince George at One (Monday, Sept. 29 @ 8/8:30 p.m. NT on CBC-TV - North American Premiere) - A look back at the first year of Prince George’s life, and how William and Kate are adapting to their new lives as parents.

  • Harry at 30 (Tuesday, Sept. 30 @ 8/8:30 p.m. NT on CBC-TV - North American Premiere) - A retrospective on Prince Harry’s life, and the balancing act he’s played as a wild child, soldier, and member of the Royal Family.

    Elizabeth: Queen, Wife, Mother
    Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 at 8/8:30 NT on CBC-TV
    A delightful and intimate account of Queen Elizabeth as told by the people closest to her. Rare interviews with her husband, Prince Philip, son Prince Andrew, Duke of York and her grandchildren, Prince William and Prince Harry, reveal private anecdotes about Queen Elizabeth as she grew up, got married and became a doting grandmother. With unrivalled access to Buckingham Palace and Clarence House, as well as previously unseen private material, the film is a total revelation on the real Queen Elizabeth - wife, mother and grandmother - as well as Britain’s longest-reigning Queen.

    William & Kate: First Year

    Featuring respected commentators, this 60-minute special gathers all the delectable detail, intimate moments and juicy gossip surrounding the couple who has captured the world’s imagination. Relive their wedding day in all its glory, from the first glimpse of Kate in that dress to the two kisses on the balcony and the buzz about Pippa’s posterior! Take a peek at their dream honeymoon in the Seychelles and the hype that followed their first trip to North America and Canada as husband and wife. Amid the growing anticipation of an heir, commentators speculate about the challenges that lie ahead for William and Kate, who seem determined to be a modern couple in an ancient institution.

    William & Kate: In the South Seas Islands

    A rare opportunity to observe the Royal Family at a historic turning point and catch a glimpse of what the future could hold as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge represent the Queen on the South Sea Islands leg of the Diamond Jubilee tour. From the hectic cities of Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to the beaches of the Solomon Islands and the remote island of Tuvalu, William and Kate bring their own interpretation of the British monarchy to some of their most enthusiastic supporters. As the world watches, will the younger generation of royals oblige the stiff formality of their parents and grandparents or will they continue to charm the public with a more low-key approach?

    Prince George at One
    Monday, Sept. 29, 2014 at 8/8:30 PM NT
    Not since the birth of Prince William back in 1982 has the arrival of a new baby been so eagerly anticipated. Twelve months on, Prince George, the future King of England, turns one. We look back at the first year of his life and see how William and Kate are adapting to the role as royal parents. We will also look at how William and Kate have managed to keep traditional royal roles, as well as breaking with protocol to bring up their son in the way they wish. And we look to the future. . .On March 17, William said publicly that “one is enough,” but how long will Prince George be an only child?

    Harry at 30
    Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014 at 8/8:30 PM NT
    Prince Henry of Wales, better known to most as Prince Harry, turns 30 on the 15th September 2014. It’s been three decades of front page news from Harry the troubled teen, to Harry the frontline soldier and Harry the world’s most eligible bachelor. In celebration of this milestone Harry at 30 explores every stage of the prince’s life over the past thirty years. Featuring contributions from friends, military colleagues, historians, journalists, photographers and royal correspondents this fascination and revealing documentary explores every iconic moment in the prince’s life.
