Beginning September 1st, Anna Maria Tremonti is back on the air
with The Current and newseason-long series ‘By Design,’ while Jian Ghomeshi kicks off Q’s new season with Canadian-exclusive radio interviews including Lena Dunham and Jon Stewart and two special themed series.

Today CBC Radio One announced the start of its new fall season, launching on Labour Day, Monday, September 1st, with one-of-a-kind programming encompassing current affairs, news, science and technology, arts and comedy.
The Current with Anna Maria Tremonti kicks off its 13th season on Monday, September 1st (8:30 a.m. /9 NT), and on September 2nd launches a new themed series, By Design. The season-long series explores the many ways—good and bad—that design affects our lives, from the structures we build to the policies we create. Whether we’re engineering the human body, a new technology to prevent birds from crashing into buildings, or a new way to teach children based on video games, it’s all By Design.
And on September 5th, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield hosts a special science edition of The Current in which he breaks down the state of science education in Canada; examines how the commercialization of research is affecting the pursuit of scientific achievement; and maps out Canada’s role in the future of space exploration.
Q with host Jian Ghomeshi (weekdays at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m./10:30 NT) will launch its season with a fresh line-up of one-on-one interviews with high-profile celebrities, including two Canadian radio exclusives with Jon Stewart and Lena Dunham. Also this season, Q will have two special themed series: Generation Wars, a look at the culture wars between Generations Y, X and Boomer, and Death Culture, which taps into the cultural fascination around death and mortality.
Returning favourites to the Radio One lineup include White Coat, Black Art (Saturday at 11:30 a.m./ 12 NT) , This Is That (Saturday at 11:00 am / 11:30 NT) and Living Out Loud (Tuesday at 1 p.m./1:30 NT), while The 180 moves to a new time slot on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m./11:30 NT. Based in Calgary, host Jim Brown and his team bring listeners a weekly Canadian current affairs show in which no perspective goes unchallenged. The show invites guests with strong opinions to provide thought-provoking arguments and offer commentary, analysis, and a lively exchange of ideas.
Among other Radio One’s highlights, As It Happens (Monday-Friday at 6:30 p.m./7 NT) continues with hosts Carol Off and Jeff Douglas. From conversations with newsmakers to up-close and personal accounts of the unusual and unexpected, Carol Off and Jeff Douglas bring you the stories behind the stories of the day.
Host Brent Bambury is back with the fifth season of Day 6 (Saturday at 10 a.m. / 10:30 NT), giving listeners a surprising take on the week that was. The weekly magazine show blends the best of news, current affairs, pop culture, the net, lifestyle and leisure.
Susan Bonner joins World at Six (Monday-Friday at 6 p.m./6:30 NT) as the new host beginning September 2nd. Susan has reported for CBC Radio and TV across Canada, including Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Calgary. She also served as CBC’s Washington correspondent for more than four years.
Cross Country Checkup, Canada’s only national open-line radio program, continues on Sunday afternoons (1 p.m. PT, 2 p.m. MT, 3 p.m. CT, 4 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. AT and 5:30 p.m. NT). On September 28th, CBC TV’s The National anchor Peter Mansbridge will host a special live townhall broadcast of Cross Country Checkup from the new digital campus at the University of Waterloo in Stratford, Ontario. The show will peek into the future of libraries to find out why we need libraries in the age of Google.
