CBC/RADIO-CANADA'S MULTI-PLATFORM COVERAGE OF 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL™ BEGINS THURSDAY, JUNE 12

Canadians will have access to coverage on TV and radio, online at cbc.ca/fifaworldcup and through their tablets and mobile devices
 
The world’s beautiful game will have a home on CBC/Radio-Canada from June 12-July 13 as the official broadcaster of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. Soccer is a universal language and everyone’s game, and CBC/Radio-Canada is inviting Canadians to be part of it throughout the month-long tournament by offering coverage on TV, radio, online at cbc.ca/fifaworldcup for computers, and through an interactive app for mobile devices and tablets. Coverage begins with the opening ceremony on Thursday, June 12, live at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT) followed by the opening match between Brazil and Croatia.
 
“Our FIFA World Cup™ programming will create a Canada-wide experience, helping fans feed and express their passion for soccer while keeping them informed, entertained and engaged,” said Paul McDougall, executive producer, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ on CBC. “We’re leveraging our best-in-class production with a multi-feed concept to provide a unique CBC lens to the games, stories and host cities in Brazil and making the whole experience interactive through our digital and social platforms.”
 
Daily coverage throughout the Group Stage (June 12-26) includes three live matches during daytime hours followed by a primetime broadcast. The Second Stage begins Saturday, June 28 with the Round of 16, eventually leading to the final game on Sunday, July 13. CBC’s Scott Russell (@SportsWkndScott), Nigel Reed (@Nigel_Reed) and Craig Forrest (@craigforrest1) will host the final match of each day’s coverage as well as the adidas Prime Time Show with in-depth analysis and highlights of the best moments from the day’s action. CBC will also provide daytime pre- and post-game coverage from the studio with host Andi Petrillo (@andipHNIC) and analysts Reed and Lloyd Barker (@lloydbarker11) providing previews and immediate reaction to each day’s matches. Canadian Women’s National Team Coach, John Herdman, will join the primetime coverage as of June 19. In addition, CBC’s Brenda Irving (@BrendaCBCSports) and David Amber (@DavidAmber) will be in Brazil providing additional insight on the atmosphere in and around the host cities through broadcast and social media.
 
CBC’s best-in-class production, working alongside FIFA, will provide viewers with a multi-feed viewing experience for a unique view of the games, the 12 cities in which the games will be played and the compelling storylines produced by the global event. CBC’s dedicated website, cbcsports.ca/fifaworldcup, will keep users updated on the latest news, notes and highlights from each of the 32 teams, their players and their match-ups, as well as overall tournament broadcast schedules and more.
 
CBC’s FIFA World Cup™ App brought to you by Bell for iOS and Android will keep fans connected no matter where they are in Canada, with a choice of six live feeds per match allowing users to select the angle from which they want to watch the game and near-live highlights covering all of the biggest plays and moments from every match. The app will also feature multiple social media feeds allowing users to share clips and news along with their own thoughts through Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
 
Through agreements with Sportsnet, TLN, Fairchild /Talentvision and TVA, CBC/Radio-Canada has made sure that Canadians will have unprecedented access to every minute of every game live on TV—in multiple languages including English, French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Italian and Spanish—as well as online at cbc.ca/fifaworldcup and through CBC’s Brazil 2014 App for iOS and Android devices, available now for download. In all, CBC will carry more than 230 hours of television coverage from 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.
 
In addition to TV coverage, CBC Radio One will carry the tournament’s final match live, hosted by CBC’s Matt Galloway and Scott Regher, with Nigel Reed and Bob Iarusci providing play-by-play and analysis. Throughout the tournament, live radio broadcasts of each game will be available through SiriusXM and TSN Radio stations across the country. TSN Radio’s broadcasts will include news and analysis from soccer experts Gareth Wheeler and Christian Jack during pre-game, halftime and post-game coverage as well as reports from Jason de Vos and Luke Wileman.
 
Canadians can engage with CBC throughout the tournament by following @cbcsports on Twitter and using #CBCWorldCup. Leading up to and throughout FIFA World Cup™, fans are encouraged to show their passion for the game by sharing photos and videos demonstrating what makes them Canada’s Super-Fans using #CBCWorldCup. CBC’s dedicated website, cbc.ca/fifaworldcup, will also featurean interactive map of Canada that will show which teams individual neighbourhoods across the country are supporting and their level of support based on online and social media activity.
 
In addition, CBC is proud to partner with CIBC to bring Canadians CIBC Soccer Nation, a seven-city viewing party tour each weekend throughout FIFA World Cup™, bringing the beautiful game to audiences in communities across the country.
