Three bands from Alberta compete to create instruments from recyclable containers for charity
CBC Music, Karo Group and Alberta’s beverage container recycling industry have teamed up for CBC Music presents: Green Tracks, a challenge to three Alberta-based bands - The Dudes, Woodpigeon, and Reuben and the Dark. Their goal will be to create instruments made from recyclable beverage containers, with the winning band receiving the opportunity to contribute $5000 to a local charity of their choice. Alberta music fans can visit cbcmusic.ca/greentracks and vote for their favourite Green Tracks performance to enter for the chance to win one of four incredible guitars.
“Our industry is thrilled to partner with CBC Music and great local musicians on this unique initiative,” said Malcolm D. Kirkland, President of the Beverage Container Management Board. “Last year, Albertans brought over two billion empty beverage containers back to their local bottle depots - a record for our province. But we know we can do even better and are continually looking for innovative and creative ways to increase the number of beverage containers being returned to depots for recycling. We’re also delighted that Green Tracks provides a tremendous opportunity for our industry to show support for three charities that use beverage container recycling as a source of fundraising.”
The Dudes, a popular indie rock band, have selected the ProHab Helmet Society as their charity of choice. The organization promotes the wearing of bike helmets by trying to fight image barriers associated with helmets, and providing them to people who couldn’t otherwise afford them. Woodpigeon, a lively musical collective helmed by Calgary native Mark Andrew Hamilton, have selected Calgary Inter-Faith Foodbank as their charity of choice in the event they win the challenge. Alberta’s latest musical export, Reuben and the Dark, have selected Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Calgary and Area.
The campaign will be supported through regional CBC platforms including regional television spots and digital boards.
The contest is open to residents of Alberta. For complete contest details, fans can visit cbcmusic.ca/greentracks.
