MORE THAN 8.8 MILLION CANADIANS TUNED IN TO COVERAGE OF THE SOCHI 2014 PARALYMPIC WINTER GAMES BETWEEN MARCH 7 & 16

One quarter of the Canadian population watched at least part of the English-language coverage on TV while cbc.ca/paralympics recorded more than 850,000 page views throughout the 10-day event

Over the course of the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, one in four Canadians tuned in to at least part of the English-language television coverage provided by the CBC-led Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) Broadcast Consortium. During the 10 days of coverage, more than 8.8 million Canadians watched some of the televised broadcasts on CBC, Sportsnet, Sportsnet One and Accessible Media Inc. (AMI).

The CPC’s Consortium also delivered online coverage including 250 hours available at cbc.ca/paralympics alone. CBC’s dedicated Paralympic microsite garnered more than 850,000 page views over the course of the 10-day event as well as more than 120,000 video views including approximately 10,000 live video views of the Canada/USA Sledge Hockey semifinal game.

Through the CPC’s Consortium, Canadians had access to more Paralympic coverage than ever before with more than 90 hours of fully accessible TV broadcasts as well as more than 250 hours of digital streaming across all platforms, including four separate venue feeds offering live streaming of Alpine, Nordic, Sledge Hockey and Curling venues, along with English-language commentary.

CBC led the creation of broadcast content for the CPC’s Broadcast Consortium, which also aired on Sportsnet, Sportsnet One and AMI, with Yahoo Sports Canada and SendtoNews providing additional coverage. Additionally, CBC News Network, local CBC News programs and CBC Radio provided updates on news and results from Sochi throughout each day of competition. In addition to live streaming video, cbc.ca/paralympics featured athlete profiles, how-to videos for select sports, blog posts from CBC commentators and video-on-demand content.
