MORE THAN 15 MILLION CANADIANS TUNED IN TO CBC'S LIVE COVERAGE OF THE SOCHI 2014 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES DURING FRIDAY'S CANADA VS. USA MEN'S ICE HOCKEY SEMIFINAL GAME

The audience during the big game peaked at nearly 8.6 million in the final minutes of the third period
 
CBC’s coverage of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games on Friday, February 21 was watched by more Canadians than any other day of the Games so far, with a daily reach of 25.5 million viewers. The reach on Day 14 exceeded the second-highest day by more than 1.1 million viewers. Almost half of the population of Canada tuned in to at least some part of CBC’s live coverage of the Canada vs. USA Men’s Ice Hockey semifinal game between 12 - 2:10 p.m. ET, the highest reach for any live event so far during Sochi 2014.
 
Of those 15 million viewers, about 3.8 million watched via online stream, representing the highest digital reach for any event to date. Audiences to CBC’s coverage peaked at 2:07 p.m. ET with almost 8.6 million viewers during the final minutes of the game. The game garnered CBC a 74 per cent share of the overall Canadian English-language television viewing audience during the game. During the game (12 - 2:10 p.m. ET), there was an average of 10 million viewers watching English language television, almost two-and-a-half times the available audience on a typical Friday at that time.

Olympic Morning also saw strong numbers with a combined audience of 1.424 million viewers between 6 - 10 a.m. ET, the highest weekday audience for the block so far
oThe Men’s Curling gold medal match between Canada and Great Britain aired during Olympic Morning on CBC which contributed to the strong audiences for the block with about 7.4 million Canadians tuning in to at least some part of the match
