On Saturday, Canada looks to build on its medal count on the rink in Olympic competition. Charles Hamelin looks to rebound in the Men’s 1,000m Short Track after a disappointing 5,000m relay, while Denny Morrison is an early favourite in the Men’s 1,500m Speed Skating after a silver medal in the 1,000m.
Sunday is the final day of play in the Men’s Ice Hockey preliminary round and teams will be looking to qualify for the quarter-final round. Canada faces off against Finland at 12 p.m. ET on CBC. In the mountains, Canadians try for a 1-2 finish in the Women’s Snowboard Cross, while Erik Guay, the most decorated downhill skier in Canadian history, hopes for a podium finish in the Men’s Super G. Other medal events on Sunday include the Women’s Speed Skating 1,500m, Men’s Biathlon 15km Mass Start as well as the Men’s Snowboard Cross final early on Monday morning.

OLYMPIC MORNING:
SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING: WOMEN’S 1500M AND MEN’S 1000M (6 - 7:30 a.m. ET) on CBC
Women’s 1,500m: South Korean Seung-Hi Park, 2013 World Champion and bronze medallist in Vancouver, will aim to get the missing gold. Chinese Jianrou Li will be her strongest opponent. Valérie Maltais, Marianne St-Gelais and Marie Eve Drolet will compete for Canada.
Men’s 1,000m: Charles Hamelin has already won gold in the 1,500m, and he looks to be at the top of the podium again in the 1,000m after a disappointing 5,000m team relay. Hamelin won the Olympic Test event in Sochi and finished fourth in Vancouver. He will be joined by Canadians Olivier Jean and Charles Cournoyer.
WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY: FINLAND VS. SWEDEN QUARTER-FINAL (7:15 - 10 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet
Finland and Sweden do battle with the winner advancing to face the USA in the Semifinal.
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: USA VS. RUSSIA PRELIMINARY ROUND (7:30 - 10 a.m. ET) on CBC
USA vs. Russia has the makings of a classic game, with big stakes as both of these teams are top medal contenders.
SPEED SKATING: MEN’S 1,500M FINAL (8:30 - 10:25 a.m. ET) on TSN

All eyes will be on Canada’s Denny Morrison, who held the 1,500m world record until it was broken by Shani Davis of the U.S. Davis is a two time Olympic silver medallist (2006 and 2010) who has trained in Canada at the Calgary Oval in the past. These two skaters renew their rivalry on their quest for gold.

MEN’S SKELETON (10 a.m. - 12 p.m. ET) on Sportsnet

So far in the 2013-2014 season, the Latvian Dukurs brothers, Martin and Tomass, have claimed the top two spots in three straight events. Canadian Eric Neilson finished fourth at the 2013 World Championships, and John Fairbairn of Calgary rounds out the Canadian contingent.

The impressive Canadian team, skipped by Jennifer Jones, goes up against the hometown favourites.

Simon Ammann won both individual events in Vancouver 2010, and did the same in Salt Lake City in 2002. He is a threat even if he did not have a great last season. Peter Prevc of Slovenia is the 2013 World silver medallist and the older of three Prevc brothers who compete for Slovenia. Mackenzie Boyd Blowes, Dusty Korek, Trevor Morrice and Matthew Rowley will represent Canada.

OLYMPIC PRIMETIME hosted by Ron MacLean, CBC-TV and cbc.ca/olympics will be bringing Canadians context from the eighth day of Olympic Competition from Sochi. Check local listings for start times. MEN’S CURLING - CANADA VS. USA (12 - 3 a.m. ET) on CBC
Both Canada and the USA got off to slow starts in the round robin but look to finish strong.
ALPINE SKIING: MEN’S SUPER G FINAL (2- 4 a.m. ET) on TSN

Erik Guay, Jan Hudec, Manny Osbourne Paradis, will carry Canadian colours. Erik won at Val Gardena, taking over as the most decorated Canadian downhill skier in Canadian history. Ted Ligety of the U.S. won the 2013 World Championship Super G to go along with two other gold medals in the Combined and Giant Slalom. Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway is the 2010 Olympic Champion and 2013 World bronze medallist.
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY - AUSTRIA VS. NORWAY (3-5:30 a.m. ET) on TSN2
Both teams opened the tournament with losses to medal contenders but look to finish the round robin on a winning note.
WOMEN’S SNOWBOARD CROSS (4:15 - 5:15 a.m. ET) on CBC
Canadian Maelle Ricker is the 2010 Olympic Champion and 2013 World Champion. Maelle broke her wrist training in Aspen on January 28th of this year, and elected to have surgery the same day. She’s still in the competition, and will be joined by World silver medallist Dominique Maltais, giving Canada a 1-2 punch in this event. American Lindsey Jacobellis is craving for an Olympic gold medal after what happened in Torino. On the second to last jump she attempted a method grab, landed on the edge of her snowboard, and fell. She finished with a silver.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING: MEN’S RELAY 4X10KM (5 - 7:30 a.m. ET) on TSN
The Swedes are the defending Olympic Champions, followed by the Norweigans. A strong Russian team looks to do well on home soil. Devon Kershaw, Alex Harvey, Len Valjas and Ivan Babikov will take to the trails for Canada.
WOMEN’S CURLING - CANADA VS. USA (5:15 - 8 a.m. ET) on CBC
This is Canada’s second last game of the round robin. The U.S. has struggled in this tournament and are looking to rebound.
OLYMPIC MORNING:
MEN’S HOCKEY: RUSSIA VS. SLOVAKIA (7:30 - 10 a.m. ET) broadcaster to be determined
Russia and Slovakia face off in the final preliminary round game for both teams. The host Russians will be looking to secure a spot in the quarter-final round with a victory.
MEN’S HOCKEY: USA VS. SLOVENIA (7:30-10 a.m. ET) broadcaster to be determined
A loaded American team will try to avoid taking the less heralded Slovenian squad lightly after Saturday’s match-up with Russia on their home ice.
WOMEN’S SPEEDSKATING: 1,500M FINAL (9 - 10:45 a.m. ET) on CBC and Sportsnet One
Canada’s Christine Nesbitt, Kali Christ, Brittany Schussler and Briane Tutt are scheduled to skate in this event. Nesbitt is always a medal threat while Christ and Schussler have both had recent success in this distance. Posing a challenge for the Canadians could be Dutch star Irene Wust and Americans Brittany Bowe and Heather Richardson.
MEN’S BIATHALON: 15 KM MASS START FINAL (10:00 - 11 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet
*CBC will join this event from 11 - 11:45 a.m. ET
Jean-Philippe Le Guellec, Scott Perras and Nathan Smith are expected to compete for Canada in this event. Norway’s Tarjei Boe should be a skier to watch, having won the World Championship in 2013 and three gold medals at Vancouver 2010. Martin Fourcade from Frances is also expected to challenge for a medal.
FIGURE SKATING: ICE DANCE SHORT PROGRAM (10 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. ET) on TSN
Canadians expected to participate include the reigning Olympic Champions, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir as well as Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje. The USA’s Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the 2013 World Championship and will be looking to improve on the silver medal they won at Vancouver 2010.
MEN’S CURLING: CANADA VS. CHINA (10:00 - 1:00 p.m.) on TSN2
In Canada’s final match of the round-robin Brad Jacobs’ rink takes on a strong challenger from China.

Canada is expected to have three entries in this competition, led by Lyndon Rush and Jesse Lumsden, the reigning World Cup Overall Champions. Chris Spring and Justin Kripps pilot Canada’s two other entries. Sunday’s competition includes the first two of four runs.

Sidney Crosby and his Canadaian teammates wrap up the preliminary round looking for a win over a strong team from Finland boasting one of the tournament’s deepest goaltending trios with Tuuka Rask, Antti Niemi and Kari Lehtonen.
