The first gold medal of the Olympic Winter Games to be awarded for Men’s Slopestyle
Saturday, February 8 marks the first day that a medal will be awarded at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games for Men’s Slopestyle. Other medal events will include the Men’s Biathlon, Ladies’ Skiathlon, Freestyle Skiing Ladies’ Moguls and Men’s 5000m Speed Skating.

OLYMPIC OVERNIGHT:
SNOWBOARD: MEN’S SLOPESTYLE SEMI-FINALS (12:30-2:15 a.m. ET) on CBC
After placing 7th in the Men’s Slopestyle qualification, Regina’s Mark McMorris, the two-time reigning X Games Champion, will now need to qualify through the semi-finals to contend for a medal alongside teammate Charles Reid who placed 9th in his heat.
WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY - USA VS. FINLAND PRELIMINARY ROUND (3-5:30 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet
The last time these teams faced off at the Women’s World Championship in 2013, USA won 3-0. Finland, the Vancouver 2010 bronze medallists, will need to come out strong up against the younger and faster team USA.
SNOWBOARD: MEN’S SLOPESTYLE FINAL (3:45-5 a.m. ET) on CBC
Quebec’s Maxence Parrot who posted the highest in the final slopestyle heat will be joined by Canadian teammate Sebastien Toutant in the race for the podium and Canada’s first medal of the games.
CROSS COUNTRY: LADIES’ SKIATHLON FINAL (7.5 KM CLASSIC + 7.5 KM FREE) (5 - 6 a.m. ET) on CBC
Canadians Daria Gaiazova and Perianne Jones go up against Norway’s Kristen Stoermer Steira, who won the test event in Sochi this past February.
SPEEDSKATING: MEN’S 5000m (6:30 - 7:15 a.m. ET) on CBC

The World Champion at this distance, the Netherland’s Sven Kramer begins his assault at the Adler Arena.

This is the first game for the Women’s hockey team who has won three consecutive gold medals at the Olympics. The last time these teams played at the World Championships in 2013, Canada won 13-0.
MEN’S BIATHLON 10 KM SPRINT FINAL (9:30 - 10:55 a.m.) on Sportsnet
Canada’s Jean Phillipe LeGuellec will compete for Canada’s first ever men’s biathlon medal.

Canada battles to win the first Olympic Figure Skating Team medal with their sights set on gold. Reigning Olympic ice dance champion Scott Moir will serve as Canada’s team captain, and his partner Tessa Virtue is the assistant team captain.
FREESTYLE SKIING LADIES’ MOGULS FINAL (1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m) on CBC
Canada’s Dufour-Lapointe sisters compete in the final for Canada. This is first time three sisters have all competed together at the Olympic Winter Games (Chloe competed in Vancouver 2010). The USA’s Hannah Kearney will look to defend her Olympic title.

OLYMPIC PRIMETIME hosted by Ron MacLean, CBC-TV and cbc.ca/olympics will be bringing Canadians context from the first day of Olympic Competition from Sochi starting at 7 p.m. ET/5 p.m.
