CBC'S COVERAGE OF SOCHI 2014 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES: PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS FOR THURS. FEB. 6

The Debut of Slopestyle, Men’s Figure Skating and Team Figure Skating, alongside Ladies’ Moguls Qualifying

Thursday, February 6 beginning at 6 a.m. ET marks the first day of competition for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and CBC has a full schedule of must-see events featuring Canadian medal hopefuls and the debut of two new sports: Slopestyle and Team Figure Skating.

OLYMPIC MORNING:
SNOWBOARD: MEN’S AND LADIES’ SLOPESTYLE QUALIFICATION (6-9 a.m. ET)
• In Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle, Regina’s Mark McMorris, the two-time reigning X Games Champion, will be to the Canadian to watch. He will be joined by teammates Sebastien Toutant, Maxence Parrot and Charles Reid.
• In the Ladies’ Slopestyle, Canada has a medal contender in Spencer O’Brien, who won gold at the FIS World Championship in 2013. She will be joined by Jenna Blasman, from Kitchener, ON.

FREESTYLE SKIING: LADIES’ MOGULS QUALIFICATION (9-9:45 a.m. ET)
• Canada will have their first glance at all three Dufour-Lapointe Sisters, Chloe, Justine and Maxime as they vie for a spot in the finals. Another Canadian, Audrey Robichaud, who is coming back from an injury this year, will also be competing. The U.S. team has strong competitors to watch for in this event, in Heather McPhie, Hannah Kearney and Eliza Outtrim.

OLYMPIC DAYTIME:
FIGURE SKATING: MEN’S SHORT AND PAIRS TEAM SHORT PROGRAMS (10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. ET)
• Today, the Figure Skating team event makes its Olympic Debut. Canada, USA, Russia and Japan are all eyeing the podium. Today’s competition features the Short Programs of the Men’s & Pairs.

MAKING YOUR MARK: The Snowboard Life of Mark McMorris (2- 3 p.m. ET)
A documentary chronicling the journey of Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris from his early days in Regina, Saskatchewan to internationally recognized athlete as well as his present-day journey to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games as a gold medal hopeful.

OLYMPIC PRIMETIME:
OLYMPIC PRIMETIME hosted by Ron MacLean, CBC-TV and cbc.ca/olympics will be bringing Canadians context from the first day of Olympic Competition from Sochi starting at 7 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Toronto-born Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Fefe Dobson @fefedobson premieres her track Celebrate during the show. The full broadcast schedule can be found here.

During the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, cbc.ca/olympics will offer Canadians a number of commentated, multilateral feeds—a Canadian first.
