Canadian country music’s biggest night features a blend of brilliant newcomers, superstar talent and international favourites in Edmonton on Sunday, September 8
It is less than two weeks until the kick off of Country Music Week® in Edmonton, Alberta, and today the Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) announced the final four country music stars who are are set to take stage at the 2013 CCMA Awards Broadcast on Sunday, September 8.
Lauded artists Tim Hicks, Deric Ruttan, Tebey, and Bobby Wills join the previously announced line-up that includes Canadian favourites Autumn Hill, Gord Bamford, Jason Blaine, Dean Brody, Chad Brownlee, George Canyon, Emerson Drive, High Valley, Kira Isabella, Brett Kissel, Small Town Pistols, and Dallas Smith, as well as multi-Platinum international artists The Band Perry, Hunter Hayes, and Darius Rucker.
“This year has one of the largest number of performers we’ve ever seen on the CCMA Awards Broadcast stage,” said CCMA President, Don Green. “We have an array of 2013 CCMA Award nominees taking the stage alongside artists who represent the freshest new faces in Canadian country music, and the biggest names in the genre today. Viewers will be treated to a once in a lifetime show.”
With two runaway hits on country radio, the release of his debut album Throw Down, over 1 million views online and a national fall tour, 2013 Canadian Country Music Association Award™ nominee Tim Hicks one of the fastest rising and most recognizable new names in Canadian country music. His debut single “Get By” was certified Gold in Canada and was the top selling Canadian country digital track at iTunes for 17 weeks, paving the way for the Niagara, Ontario native to be nominated for the 2013 CCMA Rising Star Award.
CCMA Award winner and JUNO Award nominee Deric Ruttan heads to Edmonton with two 2013 CCMA Award nominations - including Single of the Year, and a co-nomination for Songwriter(s) of the Year with Jason Blaine for Blaine’s radio hit “Cool”. Ruttan is as well known for his radio hits “Main Street, 1979,” “That’s How I Wanna Go Out” and 2010’s most-played Canadian country song of the year “Up All Night”, as he is for the songs he’s penned for other artists - including Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, and Blake Shelton (“Mine Would Be You”). Ruttan just released his latest single, “Take The Week Off,” from his forthcoming album of the same name, which will be released in October.
Tebey is nominated for the 2013 CCMA Rising Star Award following the release of his 2012 studio album debut The Wait, which he co-produced with Jason Barry. For their work, Tebey and Barry also received a 2013 CCMA Award nomination for Producer(s) of the Year. The Wait has yielded three singles including his radio hit “Somewhere In The Country” which peaked at #11 on the Canadian Country Airplay Charts.
This past March, Tebey released “Till It’s Gone”, the first single from his upcoming sophomore album Two which is slated to be released this fall. “Till It’s Gone” spent three weeks in the Top 10 at country radio, becoming Tebey’s second consecutive radio hit.
Calgary, Alberta native Bobby Wills is also a 2013 CCMA Rising Star Award nominee, and has also earned CCMA Award nominations for Male Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for “Show Some Respect”, the debut single from his 2012 album If It Was That Easy.
“Somebody Will”, his most recent single earned the distinction of staying in the Canadian country radio Top 10 for six consecutive weeks, and became Wills’ second Top 10 hit in a row.
The 2013 CCMA Awards Broadcast will be celebrated live from Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, and will air on Sunday, September 8 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC-TV, with encore airings on CMT (Canada) starting at 10 pm ET.
