CBC CALGARY HOSTS FULL-DAY FUNDRAISING BLITZ TO HELP FLOOD AFFECTED COMMUNITIES


For decades, CBC Calgary has hosted the “unofficial kick-off to the Calgary Stampede” pancake breakfast the day before the Stampede parade. In light of the recent events that have devastated many of our communities, the event has evolved into a full-day fundraising blitz in support of The Calgary Foundation on Thursday July 4 at the CBC Broadcast Centre from 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

“As Canada’s Public Broadcaster, CBC covered the flood on our television, radio and on-line platforms. Like many of our audiences, CBC was also evacuated and watched in disbelief as the catastrophe affected many of the neighborhoods in Southern Alberta. We want to help facilitate the rebuilding process of our community in any way we can,” says CBC Calgary’s Managing Director, Al Thorgeirson.

Featuring live broadcasts of the city’s #1 morning show, The Calgary Eyeopener will kick-off the day with the CBC CO-OP Stampede Breakfast from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. The ensuing “Back in the Saddle” block party will feature live radio broadcasts of Alberta at Noon and The Homestretch, and live local supper-hour television news starting at 5 p.m. The festivities, which will be included nationally on News Net, will include appearances by celebrities, Olympic athletes, musicians, entertainers and dignitaries.

All monies raised will support The Calgary Foundation, which will direct funds to grassroots organizations operating in towns and cities of Southern Alberta to help them re-build their communities. The fundraising initiative was announced June 26 on CBC Radio and has so far collected over $1 million dollars.
