CBC SADDLES UP FOR COMPREHENSIVE DAILY COVERAGE FROM THE 2013 CALGARY STAMPEDE PRESENTED BY GMC, BEGINNING FRIDAY, JULY 5

As the Calgary community comes together to rise above recent challenges, the CALGARY STAMPEDE presented by GMC returns to CBC for “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” with extensive coverage from July 5-14 on CBC-TV, CBCSports.ca and bold. The city of Calgary and its surrounding region is determinedto come back strong from the disastrous flooding that has affected the area in recent weeks and is determined to keep the CALGARY STAMPEDE tradition going in 2013. The community has shown tremendous resilience during this hardship and CBC is proud to share their remarkable efforts with viewers across Canada.
 
Coming off of last year’s centennial celebrations, CBC once again has coverage of all of the exciting events that make up the 2013 CALGARY STAMPEDE presented by GMC, including the Calgary Stampede Parade, Wild Card Saturday, Showdown Sunday and everything in between. Featuring the world’s richest tournament-style rodeo with top-ranked cowboys and cowgirls vying for more than $2 million in prizes and the thrilling GMC Rangeland Derby, including 36 chuckwagons competing for the more than $1.15 million purse, CBC’s coverage of the 2013 CALGARY STAMPEDE presented by GMChas something for the cowboy or cowgirl in everyone.
 
Coverage begins with the pageantry of the Calgary Stampede Parade on Friday, July 5 live on CBC-TV in Southern Alberta/Calgary/Lethbridge (see attached for complete broadcast details), co-hosted by CBC News Network’s Heather Hiscox (@cbchh) and Heartland’s Amber Marshall (@amber_marshall) alongside CBC Calgary’s Doug Dirks (@cbcDougDirks). CBC News Network also has live updates and coverage of the parade throughout the day on July 5. Daily live coverage is available on bold and online at CBCSports.ca. Each night on CBC, the Calgary Stampede Daily Wrap Up Show provides a recap of all of the day’s events.
 
Ron MacLean hosts CBC’s live Stampede coverage on Saturday, July 6 at 10 p.m. ET featuring the Rangeland Derby and rodeo wrap-up. One week later, MacLean returns to host of CBC’s coverage of the Calgary Stampede Championship on Sunday, July 14 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT).
 
CBC News Calgary, the community’s local supper-hour television news, has reports each day, keeping viewers in the region up-to-date on the latest stories coming out of the events while Stampede weather forecasts are broadcast live from the grounds. The annual CBC CO-OP Stampede Breakfast kicks off the CBC Back in the Saddle Block Party on Thursday, July 4 as CBC Calgary and The Calgary Foundation partner for an all-day fundraising blitz to raise funds that will be directed to grassroots organizations operating in towns and cities in Southern Alberta to help rebuild their communities. The free public event begins at 6 a.m. MT at CBC Calgary (1724 Westmount Blvd. N.W.) and includes more than 12 hours of live on-site CBC Radio broadcasts, a live CBC News Calgary broadcast from 5-6:30 p.m. MT and live updates and coverage on CBC News Network over the course of the day. In addition, local personalities including Olympian Kristina Groves will stop by throughout the day to show their support.
