A variety of shows added to the summer schedule to engage, enlighten, entertain and get listeners interacting with each other.

CBC Radio One today announced its exciting lineup of new programs for the 2013 summer season. Including a show about the mysteries of the brain, one that teaches you things like how to disappear and another looking at our modern-day relationship with animals, CBC Radio One’s summer lineup will keep you intrigued and engaged all summer long.

“We’re excited to bring our listeners this compelling lineup of new summer programs,” said Chris Boyce, Executive Director of Radio and Audio, English Services, CBC. “Our summer shows this year are unique, thought-provoking and fun. There is lots here that should get Canadians talking as they enjoy the summer.”

The new summer shows will begin airing on Monday, June 24, 2013

The 2013 CBC Radio One Summer Schedule (cbc.ca/radiosummer) includes:

THE CONFESSIONAL
(Mondays at 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. NT/rebroadcast Fridays at 11:30 a.m., 12 noon NT)
We’ve all done things in our past we’d like to get off our chest. Here’s the place to do it: The Confessional on CBC Radio One. Host Krissy Holmes invites confessional tales from across the country - some hilarious, some serious, but always must-listen radio.

HOW TO DO IT: The Guide To Things You Hope You Never Need To Know
(Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. NT /Saturdays at 11:30 a.m., 12 noon NT)
A step-by-step primer on things you hope you’ll never need to do - like disappear from your life, make someone fall in love with you, or lose all your money. Hosts Sarah Treleaven and Josh Bloch talk to people who’ve lived through these experiences, and to experts who provide practical advice on how to do the unimaginable.

INTERSECTIONS
(Mondays at 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. NT /Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. NT)
It’s happening in office towers, restaurant kitchens, even in our own living rooms. Some call it a “clash of cultures.” We call it “Intersections.” It’s a show about how we connect - or not - in our ever-changing Canada. Host Niru Kumar speaks with spouses, colleagues, neighbours and friends about cultural tensions in their relationships. She unearths stories about who we are and where we’re heading, exposing some uncomfortable truths along the way.

THINK ABOUT IT
(Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m., 12 noon NT /rebroadcast Fridays at 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. NT)
A user’s guide to the brain. Leap into the current rush of brain mania and find out what’s really going on upstairs…it’s stranger than you think. Host Roberta Walker journeys through the wonders of the brain to find out how it guides us, how it foils us, how it makes us who we are.

TOOTH & CLAW
(Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. NT /rebroadcast Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. NT)
The ones we eat. The ones we love. The wild ones, too. Our relationship with animals today is more complicated than ever. And it’s the source of some thorny debates. Tooth & Claw jumps right into those debates. Host Peter Brown in Edmonton and field correspondent Manusha Janakiram in Vancouver find the urgent and the absurd in the human/animal relationship today.

Other new summer programs based on familiar CBC Radio One series and specials include:

AS IT HAPPENED: The Archive Edition
(Wednesdays at 11:30 p.m., 12 midnight NT/rebroadcast Fridays at 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. NT)
Those As It Happens interviews you just can’t get out of your head. For 45 years, the show has been bringing listeners the latest, most dramatic and downright strangest news of the day - straight from the people making it. Everything from hostage-takings in progress to last-minute rescues to tales of donkeys going to court. Tune in each week to hear the show’s most compelling characters all over again. Hosted by Carol Off and Jeff Douglas.

Doc World, hosted by documentary veteran Karin Wells, features a selection of the best radio documentaries being produced by broadcasters the world over.

LINE IN THE SAND
