CBC News announced today that Robert Russo, the former Ottawa bureau chief for The Canadian Press, will take over as managing editor of the Parliamentary bureau in Ottawa for CBC News. Robert takes over the helm in September from Paul Hambleton, who is moving to Toronto as Managing Editor of Radio and Television programming for CBC News.
“Robert is a proven journalistic leader and innovator, and widely respected by his peers as one of the most passionate and hard-working leaders in the industry,” said Jennifer McGuire, general manager and editor-in-chief, CBC News and Centres. “Robert will build on an impressive track record at the CBC Parliamentary bureau with a mandate to drive original, enterprise and investigative journalism.”
Robert is one of the most admired journalistic leaders in the country, and has led teams that have won numerous awards including a Michener, National Newspaper awards and the press gallery’s Charles Lynch Award for lifetime achievement. Over a three decade career in journalism, Robert was CP’s Ottawa bureau chief for ten years, was their Washington based correspondent for seven years during the Clinton and Bush administrations, CP’s Montreal English bureau chief, among other assignments, and has regularly appeared on CBC television and radio as a political analyst.
