CBC/RADIO-CANADA AND TVA SPORTS REACH A MAJOR AGREEMENT MAKING TVA SPORTS A LICENSED BROADCASTER OF 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL™

CBC/Radio-Canada today announced the signing of a major agreement with TVA Sports to secure even wider coverage in the French-language market for 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL™ events.

Under the agreement between CBC/Radio-Canada and TVA Sports, every match will now be broadcast live to French-speaking audiences - 46 on Radio-Canada and 18 on TVA Sports, which will also have rebroadcast rights for all 64 matches. TVA Sports also becomes a licensed broadcaster of the 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP BRAZIL™. In addition, the agreement establishes the TVA Sports network as exclusive French-language broadcaster for the June FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013, FIFA’s prelude tournament between the best national teams from all continents.

“French-speaking viewers have much to gain from this agreement between Radio-Canada and TVA Sports to deliver greater access to this prestige event - Canadians will now be free to watch in both official languages. Brazil has a great passion for soccer, and the next World Cup is sure to stir things up to a fever pitch the likes of which we’ve never seen,” says Radio-Canada executive vice-president Louis Lalande.

“The TVA Sports network is extremely proud to be associated with one of the world’s premier sporting events. Becoming a FIFA World Cup licensed broadcaster reflects our intention to keep soccer front and centre on TVA Sports, where we already air Montreal Impact and Champions League matches. Our agreement with Radio-Canada also confirms the major presence we’ve already achieved in the hearts and minds of Quebec soccer fans,” remarks Pierre Dion, president and CEO of TVA Group.

“We’re pleased to have made this arrangement with TVA Sports for the World Cup, providing an even greater opportunity for Canadians to enjoy every minute of this prestigious event in either official language throughout the tournament,” said Jeffrey Orridge, Executive Director, Sports Properties, CBC.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ will run from June 12 to July 13, 2014. All matches will also be streaming live and on demand at CBC.ca/sports (English) and Radio-Canada.ca/sports (French). Further details will be made available in the lead-up to the event. In the meantime, for all the latest soccer news click Radio-Canada.ca/sports/soccer.
