CBC'S LIVE RIGHT NOW AND EVERGREEN BRICK WORKS TEAM UP TO BRING FAMILIES TOGETHER THIS FAMILY DAY FOR AN EXCITINGLY FUN OUTDOOR WINTER PICNIC

Share in the making of a community soup and meet Bo On The Go! from Kids’ CBC on February 18th

CBC’s Live Right Now and Evergreen Brick Works invite you to head outdoors and take part in a special winter picnic event to help celebrate Family Day this February 18th! Torontonians are encouraged to dress warmly, pack a picnic and blanket and visit Evergreen Brick Works for an afternoon of skating, healthy eating, and activities, with a special appearance by Bo On The Go! from Kids’ CBC.

The festivities will be held on Monday, February 18th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Evergreen Brick Works Environmental Community Centre, at 550 Bayview Avenue in Toronto (north of Rosedale Valley Road, south of Pottery Road). The picnic portion of the day will take place at Chimney Court around the campfire, featuring local food vendors such as Pimenton, Local Kitchen & Wine Bar and My Little Dumplings, as well as a President’s Choice demo table. A homemade stone soup will be prepared on-site over the campfire for all to share; picnickers are encouraged to participate by bringing a fresh vegetable for the batch.

Enjoy outdoor skating with friends and family (skate rentals are available at the rink), take in a nature walk or talk with a Registered Dietitian about healthy eating tips and the benefits of eating together as a family as part of CBC’s Live Right Now new initiative.

11 a.m. - Skating rink opens; stone soup preparations begin
12 noon to 3 p.m. - Food vendors open for service; music on-site
1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. - Stone soup will be served
2 p.m. to 3 p.m. - Guided nature/heritage walk

Please note that in the case of inclement weather, the picnic will take place at The Kilns Holcim Gallery next to Koerner Gardens. Parking is available on-site or alternatively, Evergreen Brick Works provides a free shuttle bus service operating from Erindale Avenue, just north of Broadview subway station, every half hour. Additional details on the shuttle service can be found at ebw.evergreen.ca/visit/getting-here/bus/shuttle-bus-schedule

CBC’s Live Right Now strives to bring Canadians together, encouraging them to reconnect with the people and things that are important in their lives, with healthy living in mind. This year, Live Right Now would like families to eat together more often, and has established a 100,000 “meals together” goal. Families can sign up online at www.cbc.ca/liverightnow and pledge to eat meals together more often; for every meal pledged online, Food Banks Canada will donate a meal to those in need. This unique outdoor winter picnic event kicks off Live Right Now‘s new campaign in Toronto and is an opportunity for Canadians to get involved and give back.
