CBC RADIO ONE'S THE CURRENT CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY

Live from the Glenn Gould Studio on Monday, November 19th with guests Stephen Lewis, Dr. Vincent Lam, Lorna Dueck, Mary Walsh, Maher Arar and Linden Macintyre

After years of poking and provoking, THE CURRENT celebrates its 10th anniversary with a live show from the Glenn Gould Studio (CBC Building, 250 Front Street West, Toronto) on Monday, November 19th at 7:30 a.m. EST broadcasting live to Atlantic Canada .

Host Anna Maria Tremonti welcomes former diplomat and humanitarian Stephen Lewis; award-winning writer and doctor Vincent Lam; and Lorna Dueck, host of Context with Lorna Dueck, to discuss the dilemmas that define us as a nation. Comedian and mental health activist Mary Walsh and Maher Arar will also join Anna Maria on stage to talk about their own journeys and how THE CURRENT helped bring their stories to Canadians.

Finally, Anna Maria will sit down with CBC’s the fifth estate co-host and 2009 Scotiabank Giller Prize winner Linden Macintyre for a special one-on-one with Linden asking the questions.

Tickets are still available through thecurrenttickets@cbc.ca

ABOUT THE CURRENT:
The Current is a meeting place of perspectives, ideas and voices, with a fresh take on issues that affect Canadians today. Our team of journalists—based in every major region of the country—think locally and globally. We bring new insight to stories that Canadians are talking about now, and we uncover stories they’ll be talking about next week and next year.
We don’t just talk about the issues. We poke and prod them and look at them from new angles, shedding light on what needs to be exposed and taking delight in the surprising twists and turns our stories take. Nothing’s off limits—politics, business, culture, justice, science, religion—if it’s pertinent to Canadians, it’s on the Current agenda.

ABOUT ANNA MARIA TREMONTI:
Anna Maria Tremonti has been the host of CBC Radio One’s The Current since it first burst onto the airwaves in November of 2002.

She brings a mix of hard-edged journalism and hard-won empathy to a 90-minute program that tackles everything from the politics of the day, to the changes that affect our society, to the stories of individuals whose personal journeys and traumas affect us all.

The Current marked her return to radio after 19 years with CBC Television, including two years as a host of the flagship investigative program the fifth estate. For nine years she was a foreign correspondent for The National, based in Berlin, London, Jerusalem and Washington. Her assignments abroad included ongoing coverage of the war in Bosnia, the fall of communism, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as the politics of the Arab world, Europe and the United States. Prior to that, Anna Maria reported from Parliament Hill, and worked as a reporter in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Alberta. She began her career in private radio, at CKEC in New Glasgow Nova Scotia.
