MARK KELLEY'S DEBUT ON CBC'S the fifth estate: A REMARKABLE STORY OF SURVIVAL, DETERMINATION AND LUCK IN CANADA'S NORTH

Left for Dead airs on CBC News’ the fifth estate,
Friday, Nov. 16 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC-TV

In Mark Kelley‘s first episode with the fifth estate, one of the greatest survival stories never told. Two friends depart on the adventure of a lifetime—Ohio to Sweden, in a small plane. But that adventure would soon become a struggle between life and death. The engines quit, and the plane crashes into the icy waters of Canada’s North, just south of Baffin Island, on a cold, dark night. Rescue planes and a helicopter circle overhead, but find nothing, no trace of the two men clinging for life on drifting sea ice, deep in polar bear hunting grounds.

Left for Dead, airing Friday, Nov.16 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC-TV, is their story, one of dogged determination, heroism and sheer good luck.

To the outside world, the two adventurers had simply vanished and rescue teams gave up hope of finding them alive. The pilot’s wife was delivered the grim facts: no sign of the plane, no sign of life. But hundreds of kilometres away, off the coast of Labrador, a Newfoundland fishing boat had set off on an incredible journey that would turn one humble captain into a hero, and a heartbroken wife into one of the happiest people on Earth.
