CBC News won six Gold designation awards last night at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPA). More than any other news organization in Canada, CBC was recognized for its innovative approach to digital journalism, and pushing the boundaries in excellence for a 21st century public broadcaster.
A powerful team led by Jennifer McGuire, CBCNews.ca won best overall online-only publication website and the CBC News app was chosen as both best smartphone app and best tablet edition. CBC currently ranks eighth among all brands accessed on mobile devices and is the top ranking broadcast brand. To date, there have been more than one million downloads of the CBC News app. CBC’s online offering overall reaches more unique visitors than any broadcast competitors - with 34 per cent greater reach than CTV in September 2012.**

The innovative new digital service, CBC Hamilton, won Gold for best mobile-optimized website. The responsive design adapts to any digital device - desktop, smartphone or tablet - and it illustrates the importance of CBC’s digital service as part of our commitment to expanding local services to communities across Canada and changing the way Canadians connect with their community and with each other.
