The Extensive Coverage Begins Tonight with the First Presidential Debate. POWER & POLITICS WITH EVAN SOLOMON sets up the night, beginning at 5 p.m. ET on CBC News Network

CBC News Network airs the first presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney tonight, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC News Network. Evan Solomon hosts CBC News’ broadcast of the debate, which focuses on domestic policy, and explores the key issues that are at stake for Canadians in this crucial U.S. election. Canadians can join the conversation, with featured comments on-screen and a live online chat during the debate, hosted at cbcnews.ca/usdebates. CBC News’ The National, hosted by chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge, will broadcast a round-up of the debate and look at the key points made by each candidate. The National will air at 10 p.m./10:30 NT on CBC-TV, and at 11 p.m. ET/PT on CBC News Network.

Beginning at 5 p.m. ET on CBC News Network, Power & Politics with Evan Solomon looks ahead to the debate and CBC News Now with Ian Hanomansing counts down to the debate starting at 8 p.m. ET. Canadians can join the conversation by adding #PnPCBC to their tweets, which will be displayed across the bottom of the screen during the debate. Coverage will continue after the debate with analysis from guests and CBC News political reporter Susan Bonner, plus CBC’s national affairs editor Chris Hall.

A pre-debate, live chat starts at 8:30 p.m. ET with Evan Solomon, Chris Hall, and Meagan Fitzpatrick. The debate streams live at www.cbcnews.ca/usdebates. And when the dust settles, join CBC News’ senior Washington correspondent Neil Macdonald and Susan Bonner for a LIVE CHAT Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET.  They’ll give their post-debate analysis and address your comments and questions.
