CBC NEWS ANNOUNCES FIONA CONWAY AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING

Gemini, Emmy and Peabody award-winner comes home to Canada

CBC News today announced the appointment of Gemini, Emmy and Peabody award-winning news producer Fiona Conway as the new Executive Director of Programming, CBC News and Centres, effective July 23.

“I am thrilled to welcome Fiona back home to Canada,” said Jennifer McGuire, Editor in Chief of CBC News. “Her career accomplishments to date are tremendously impressive, and her talents will only enhance what is already one of the world’s finest news organizations.”

“I am honoured to have been asked to return to Canada and to join such a formidable news organization,” said Conway. “I have been really fortunate at ABC News to have been a part of some of the biggest news stories of our time. I can’t think of a more exciting next chapter than my new role with CBC News.”

Most recently the Executive Director of ABC News Services and Client Services, Conway began her career at CFRA Radio, moving to Global and then on to CTV, where she held a variety of senior and executive roles with the network’s news, special events and current affairs programs. During her time with ABC, Conway was Senior Producer for Good Morning America and for ABC Special Events, and spent five years as Senior Producer of ABC World News Tonight, where she worked closely with legendary anchor and fellow Canadian Peter Jennings. Conway is a two-time Emmy Award winner (for ABC’s Millennium special as well as its September 11th coverage). She has also won a Peabody Award, a duPont-Columbia Award in 2006, and two Gemini Awards, among a long list of other professional accolades.

In her new role with CBC News, Conway will oversee a wide range of news and current affairs programming on both television and radio, including THE NATIONAL, the fifth estate, MARKETPLACE, WORLD REPORT, WORLD AT SIX, and THE HOUSE, among others.
