CBC invites fans in Calgary and around the world to join the celebration of 100 years of the Calgary Stampede with help from CBC Calgary, CBC News, Kids’ CBC, CBC Music and cbcsports.ca
As the exclusive broadcaster for the 100th Calgary Stampede—“The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”—CBC-TV is joining the milestone celebration with much more than its comprehensive television and online coverage from July 5 to July 15. CBC’s extensive multiplatform celebration of this proud Canadian tradition extends beyond event coverage to include on-site events for fans of all ages as well as live online chats, blogs and social media integration to further connect CBC with a passionate audience at the Stampede and around the world.
CBC keeps you connected to the events and competitions both locally and nationally with:
- CBC Stampede Breakfast on Thursday, July 5 at 7 a.m. MT - this annual event at the CBC Calgary Broadcast Centre celebrates cowboy culture and heritage and includes live music, dancing, western-style performers, and special guests. The Calgary Eyeopener (No. 1 morning show in the market), will go live from 6 - 8:30 a.m. MT.
- From 7 - 10 a.m. MT (9 - noon ET), Suhana Meharchand will host CBC News Now live from the centre of the action at the CBC Stampede Breakfast.
- Stampede 100 on Thursday, July 5 - CBC hosts a celebration of 100 years of the Calgary Stampede live from the Palomino Room at Stampede Park, with a red carpet beginning at 5:30 p.m. MT. The celebration includes musical performances, special appearances by CBC stars and a look at the people, events and traditions that have made the Stampede what it is today. The show will be broadcast live on July 5 on CBC-TV in Alberta, and nationally to bold subscribers, at 8 p.m. MT. CBC-TV will air the special nationally on Sunday, July 15 at 7 p.m. LOCAL (8 p.m. AT; 8:30 p.m. NT).
- In celebration of the Calgary Stampede’s Centennial, CBC Music unveils a special digital radio stationStampede 100 launching July 4 and running until July 27.This new limited edition digital channel features 100 cowboy-inspired songs compiled by Daybreak Alberta listeners and host Russell Bowers.
- Kids’ CBC programming from July 7 to July 15 - The Caboose heads west to join the centennial celebrations with special segments featuring the people, places and activities families will enjoy.Throughout the Stampede, Kids’ CBC will air a unique Western Heritage moment each morning, showcasing parts of the Stampede that have helped shape the west over the last 100 years. In addition, Kids’ CBC presents the special music video 100 Years, 100 Things to See featuring Patty and Mamma Yamma telling Sid about all the things to see at the Calgary Stampede.
- Kids’ CBC performances on the Coca-Cola Stage on Saturday, July 7 - Patty, Sid and Mamma Yamma will be on the Stampede grounds for live shows at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. MT. (times subject to change).
- CBC News Calgary will have daily coverage of the Calgary Stampede from July 6 to July 15 with Danielle Savoni doing live weather hits weekdays from the Calgary Stampede grounds. During the weekdays, the Calgary Eyeopener will also have daily coverage of the Stampede, while Homestretch will have a round up of the day’s rodeo events.
- cbcsports.ca connects fans to all the fun of the Stampede through live blogging by Canadian Olympian Melissa Hollingsworth, video features, and insights from the centennial celebration. Fans can join the conversation online using the hashtag #CalgaryStampede.
- In addition to enjoying the excitement of the Stampede on a computer, iPhone and iPad users for the first time will also be able to enjoy all the exciting action as cbcsports.ca streams live daily coverage from the Calgary Stampede from July 6 - 15.
