A MAKEOVER IN SPECIAL SERIES REDESIGNING AMERICA

Canada gets   similar redesign by partner station WNYC Radio’s Studio 360 in New   York

Today, Q with host Jian Ghomeshi launches Redesigning   America, a five-week series that is out to deconstruct…and   reconstruct…the cultural image of our neighbours to the south. For the month of   June, Q will bring together well-known personalities, from   thinkers to comedians, from the U.S., Canada and around the world to discuss   everything from America’s international reputation, its media and entertainment   industries and even its manners.

Among the series   guests are Fran Lebowitz, novelist Toni Morrison, Lewis Black of The Daily Show   and a special performance from Grammy winners The Civil Wars. The series   culminates in a full-show finale—Reinventing the American Dreamon America’s Independence Day, July 4th.

Q partners with   WNYC Radio’s Studio 360 with host Kurt Andersen, who will give Canada a similar   makeover treatment. How can Canada up its game? Studio 360 will spend June   answering that question leading up to their special broadcast on Canada Day,  July 1st.

On Friday,  May 25th, Jian is joined by Studio 360 host Kurt Andersen to launch the   series on both programs. Q airs at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio   One. Both programs are broadcast in major centres across the USA via Public   Radio International (PRI).

Throughout the   series, Q and Studio 360 will check in with one another,  collaborate on special online features, and invite listeners and viewers on both   sides of the border to weigh in on these contentious matters. Listeners can   follow the discussion at www.redesigningproject.com.

Tune in as Q tackles issues such as:

  • Redesigning   American Talk: From   Rush Limbaugh on the right to Michael Moore on the left…are debates in the   U.S. too polarizing to be insightful, or are sharply divided debates a sign of a   healthy and open democracy?

  • Redesigning   the Face and Race of America: Q debates   an image makeover for Uncle Sam. Does it reflect the diverse reality of America   today? What should the symbolic face of America look like?

  • Redesigning   the American Personality: Q presents a feisty and fun look into American manners. Are Americans confident   and outgoing or pushy and abrasive? Are internationally held complaints about   rudeness false? Which character trait should America   embrace?

  • Redesigning   American Morality: Puritanism vs. Libertarianism:  America is a land of moral contrasts. Q asks what should be the   moral compass that drives the American psyche?

  • Redesigning America’s media and pop culture: Q examines America’s media coverage and the Redesign of Hollywood and Celebrity   Culture.

Q is an energetic, daily arts, culture and entertainment magazine that takes listeners on a smart   and surprising ride, interviewing personalities and tackling the cultural issues   that matter. With host Jian Ghomeshi’s trademark wit and spontaneity, Q covers pop culture and high arts alike with forays into   the most provocative and compelling cultural trends.

Q is also   broadcast across the USA via Public Radio International (PRI) on more than 95   stations, including major centres like Chicago, Seattle, Austin, San Diego,  Tampa, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City and Nashville. Q is   broadcast across North America on Sirius 159. QTV - the televised   version of Q - airs weekly on CBC Television and online at   cbc.ca/q.
