CBC RECOGNIZED IN iTUNES REWIND 2011

CBC News App, CBC Radio Podcasts named among this year’s best

The CBC News App for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and two CBC Radio podcasts, THE AGE OF PERSUASION and VINYL CAFE STORIES, have been included in Canada’s iTunes Rewind 2011, which explores the year’s best in music, movies, TV shows, books, apps, and podcasts. To see the full iTunes Rewind list, visit www.itunes.com/itunesrewind/.

The CBC News App, which launched in February 2011, was named as one of the year’s best news apps.

“From the redesign of our CBCNews.ca website to the launch of our tremendously successful CBC News App, this has been a remarkable year in the digital space for CBC News,” said Jennifer McGuire, general manager and editor-in-chief, CBC News. “Canadians turn to CBC News to give them the news they need where and when they want it.  We’re very pleased to see the CBC News App included in iTunes Rewind.”

CBC Radio’s THE AGE OF PERSUASION was named Best New Audio Podcast, while VINYL CAFE STORIES was named Best Audio Podcast, both within the Podcasting category.

“CBC Radio’s podcasts continue to be extremely popular with Canadians across the country,” says Chris Boyce,  executive director, radio and audio, CBC English Services. “They help us serve new audiences in new ways, so we are thrilled to see these two programs recognized.”

The CBC News App is available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.ca/appstore/. CBC’s full list of available podcasts is available by visiting CBC.ca/podcasting.
