Special programming is ramping up as we approach the big day on November 2 - CBC’s official 75th anniversary. CBC-TV, CBC Radio and CBC.CA are offering a range of special programming in the culmination of 75 DAYS OF PROGRAMMING to help mark the milestone.
“From our early roots in radio, through groundbreaking television and now a leader in the online space, we are celebrating our 75th anniversary with very special offerings on all of our platforms that will engage and delight long-time CBC fans and new audiences alike,” said Kirstine Stewart, executive vice-president of CBC English Services.

CBC WAS THERE - CBC News vignettes
Through Nov. 2, turn to CBC News for CBC Was There, a series of short vignettes reminding us of key moments experienced by generations of Canadians. It’s an eclectic selection of archival news stories that speak about our triumphs as well as our tragedies—from political news stories to the “feel good” items that reflect our diverse human experience.
And on Nov. 2, tune to CBC News Network, CBC Radio One and CBCNews.ca throughout the day for stories, archival clips and interviews reflecting CBC’s 75th anniversary.

In a very special two-part episode, This Is That looks back on the lesser-known milestones of the past 75 years of the CBC. From the accidental first broadcast in the ‘30s to a touching retrospective on CBC’s longest running radio drama, ‘Canada Town’, Pat Kelly and Peter Oldring won’t just remind you of CBC’s glorious history—they’ll rewrite it.
THE SUNDAY EDITION

Recorded live at Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, host Michael Enright is joined by a constellation of CBC stars past and present plus special musical guests for a look at key moments and music that have helped make CBC Radio what it is today. Singer-songwriters Serena Ryder, Sylvia Tyson (also author and former host of CBC Radio’s Touch The Earth) and Molly Johnson (host of Radio 2 Morning) will perform live with a band featuring acclaimed jazz artist Guido Basso and under the musical direction of Joe Sealy. Other confirmed guests include Mark Starowicz, executive director, Documentary Programming; Judy Maddren, former host of CBC Radio One’s World Report; and Royal Canadian Air Farce‘s Don Ferguson; plus satirical skits written by renowned Canadian playwright Jason Sherman.

IDEAS: THE CBC AT 75 - TURNING POINTS IN PUBLIC BROADCASTING

Ideasexamines the crucial episodes in the history of the CBC, including the Golden Age of radio, the CBC’s fight for political independence and the origins of television. The five-part series features interviews with trail blazers such as Graham Spry, considered the father of public broadcasting in Canada, who were instrumental in shaping the CBC from its beginnings to the present day.

In celebration of 75 years of Canadian music and CBC broadcasting, CBC Radio 2 is pre-empting regular programming to present Raised on Radio: a decade-by-decade countdown of Canada’s most essential songs.
The show begins with a survey of the ‘30s, and each successive hour celebrates a different decade in Canadian music. We’ll look at the big bands of the ‘40s, the doo-wop groups of the ‘50s, the revolutionary ‘60s, the hard-rocking ‘70s, all the way to the hit-makers of today.
