Ed Asner joins CBC-TV's Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays

One of TV’s best-loved actors debuts in recurring role on new comedy series this Tuesday

September 30, 2011 - Scott Stinson of the National Post says MICHAEL: TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS is “not just good, it is excellent ... sharp, caustic and brilliantly funny.”
The Toronto Star’s Rob Salem says “This is far and away the best television comedy I’ve seen this year. In several years.”

And Globe & Mail TV writer John Doyle says the show is “effortlessly captivating,” and goes on to say, “The show feels frisky in its comedy, not cynical, and there’s real skill evident in the comedic twist on therapy.”

It has drawn tremendous critical acclaim and on October 4, CBC Television’s brilliant new comedy series MICHAEL: TUESDAYS &  THURSDAYS ramps up the star power with multiple Emmy Award-winner Ed Asner.

This Tuesday (October 4) at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT), Asner joins stars Bob Martin (Dr. David Storper) and Matt Watts (Michael Dyer) on MICHAEL: TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS in the recurring role of the shrink’s somewhat outrageous shrink,  Dr. Wassermann.

Recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award (2002),  Edward Asner has created some of the most memorable characters in television history. His triple Emmy-winning Lou Grant on the phenomenon that was The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977)proved so rich a character that a series grew up around him. For the Peabody Award-winning The Lou Grant Show (1977-1982),  Asner garnered two more Emmys. He is highly-respected for his work in seminal drama series such as Rich Man, Poor Man (Emmy, 1976) and Roots (Emmy, 1997).

More recently, he portrayed Warren Buffet in Curtis Hanson’s in Too Big To Fail (2011), and had recurring roles in Aaron Sorkin’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006-2007) and David E. Kelley’s The Practice (1997-2004). A new generation fell in love with Asner when he voiced the man who went flying in his house in the animated Oscar-winner Up (2009). This year, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Banff Media Festival.

MICHAEL: TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS is the newest creation of acclaimed writer-producer-actor Bob Martin (Slings & Arrows, The Drowsy Chaperone).  Martin stars as Dr. David Storper, an Ottawa psychiatrist specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He has been seeing his patient, Michael Dyer (Matt Watts) every Tuesday and Thursday for 15 years. Michael believes David is his key to happiness. David believes Michael is his key to a lucrative book deal.
