CBC SportsandRogers Sportsnetare joining forces to provide unprecedented coverage of the2011 FIFA Women’s World Cupof soccer. For the first time, every match will be broadcast live in Canada. The coverage begins Sunday, June 26 on CBC when Canada opens the tournament against host Germany.
The partnership will see CBC air all matches involving Canada, including three of four quarterfinals, the semi-final, bronze and gold medal matches, all live. Rogers Sportsnet will air one quarterfinal match live, while also providing encore broadcasts of the quarterfinal, semi-final, bronze and gold medal matches. Additionally, in the early rounds, Rogers Sportsnet will provide live coverage of matches not involving Canada. The network will also produce nightly wrap-up shows. Under the agreement, Rogers Communications will also have rights to wireless and video-on-demand content.
CBC Sportswill produce the match broadcasts, using on-air personalities from both networks.
