CBC TO HOST "NERDING OUT" NERD NITE TORONTO'S FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 30

The event will take place Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. in the Glenn Gould Studio at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre, 250 Front St. W. in downtown Toronto

Tickets to both sessions are available via the Nerd Nite Toronto website

CBC Toronto announced today it has partnered with Nerd Nite Toronto to host its fifth anniversary event, Nerding Out, next month. Nerd Nite exists in more than 90 international cities and is described as “a lecture series that takes place in a pub” and balances education and entertainment as speakers give fun-yet-informative presentations across a wide array of topics at the intersection of creativity and technology. The Nerd Nite Toronto fifth anniversary event on Wednesday, Sept. 30 will consist of two sessions in the Glenn Gould Studio at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre.

“Nerd Nite Toronto’s anniversary is a celebration of many of our own values and ideas, so we jumped at the opportunity to embrace our inner nerd and use this partnership as a way to showcase some of the cool and ‘nerdy’ projects we have going on,” said Fred Mattocks, general manager, Media Operations and Technology, CBC. “A significant portion of our staff, particularly in the digital space, would count themselves as part of the Nerd Nite target audience, so this is a great opportunity for them hear more about how CBC is moving forward digitally in a community environment.”

Nerd Nite Toronto events typically feature two presentations followed by trivia; however, due to the special nature of the anniversary event and the collaboration with CBC, the Sept. 30 event will be larger in scope and will be split into two sessions, with a reception and networking opportunity taking place between the sessions:

Afternoon Session
  • Time: 3-5 p.m.
  • Location: Glenn Gould Studio, 250 Front St. W., Toronto
  • Presentations: Internally sourced showcase featuring seven speakers from CBC discussing topics including innovative content delivery, designing and developing storytelling solutions for modern platforms, sampling methodology for Big Data applications, and more
  • Admission: Free

Evening Session
  • Time: 7-10 p.m.
  • Location: Glenn Gould Studio, 250 Front St. W., Toronto
  • Presentations: Lauren Shorser on the subject of cephalopods, Dr. Julielynn Wong on 3D printing, and a third presentation by a special CBC guest
  • Admission: $15

More information and tickets to the afternoon and evening sessions via Eventbrite are available now through the Nerd Nite Toronto website (toronto.nerdnite.com). Attendees and other interested parties are encouraged to follow @NerdNiteToronto on Twitter and join the Nerd Nite Toronto Facebook group.
