CBC RADIO ONE ANNOUNCES TWO NEW SHOWS

CBC Radio One is pleased to announce two new original programs that will go to air later this month. OUT IN THE OPEN with   Piya Chattopadhyay launches on Saturday, May 28, and THE CANDY PALMATER SHOW launches on Monday, May 30.

“It’s exciting to welcome two terrific new afternoon programs to CBC Radio One,” says Susan Marjetti executive director of CBC Radio English Services. “We   are enjoying record audiences and want to continually renew for a dynamic, digital, and diverse world.”

OUT IN THE OPEN   (Saturdays at 3 p.m./3:30 NT) is an adventure! It’s a radio show and podcast. For one hour every week, host Piya Chattopadhyay and her team will tackle one   big issue facing Canadians and discuss it through a range of perspectives. Topics like legal weed, the sex talk, belonging, and how we share secrets   online. The podcast will be weekly too and will launch on Wednesday, May 18, two weeks before the radio broadcast, to encourage listeners’ input. OUT IN   THE OPEN will be distributed in the U.S. by Public Radio International.

THE CANDY PALMATER SHOW   (weekdays at 1 p.m./1:30 NT) is a two-hour daily show that will air Monday to Friday. It’s an honest, funny and above all, engaging program. Host Candy   Palmater brings her own life experience to the airwaves every weekday afternoon, offering up terrific music and great conversation with her trademark   razor-sharp wit. Topics may come from anyone, anywhere, but they`ll all have one thing in common: Candy`s unique perspective.

No stranger to CBC Radio audiences, Piya Chattopadhyay has hosted   some of the biggest CBC Radio shows from The Current to q, to guest-hosting on Toronto’s #1 morning   show, Metro Morning. Now she’s in the driver’s seat with her own show, OUT IN THE OPEN.

Candy Palmater   is a former lawyer turned feminist comic, who was raised by bikers in the wilds of northern New Brunswick. She is an actor, writer, international speaker,   and TV and radio personality. Candy is also the creator and star of her own national, multiple-award-winning TV series, The Candy Show. She has a recurring role on Trailer Park Boys, a column with CBC Radio’s The Next Chapter, and has guest-hosted onDNTO and q. Candy has written and hosted many broadcasts including Aborignal Day Live,Indspire Awards, and the imagineNATIVE Film Fest Awards Show.‎ This month she joins CBC Radio with her own show, appropriately called   The Candy Palmater Show.
