2016 CBC POETRY PRIZE FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

CBC BOOKS, CBC's website devoted to books and authors, readers and writers, together with its partners the Canada Council for the Arts, Air Canada enRoute magazine and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, today announced the finalists for the 2016 CBC Poetry Prize.

They are:

  • Ross Belot of Hamilton, Ontario for The Edge of Everything
  • Selina Boan of Vancouver, British Columbia for In six, the seasons
  • Adam Dickinson of Catharines, Ontario for The Metabolites
  • Michael Fraser of Toronto, Ontario for African Canadian in Union Blue
  • Andréa Ledding of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for kîwetinotahk pimâcihowin - northern journeys

Their poems were selected from more than 1300 received from across the country. As of today, the public can read them all on CBCBooks.ca.

The jurors for this year’s CBC Poetry Prize are Roo Borson, George Elliott Clarke and Erín Moure. The winner of this year’s prize will be announced on November 16, 2016.

In addition to a cash prize of $6000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Grand Prize winner will receive a ten-day writing residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and will be published in Air Canada enRoute magazine. The four other finalists will each receive $1000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and will be published on the CBC Books website.

The French-language Prix de poésie finalists were also announced this morning. More information on them can be found at ICI.Radio-canada.ca/icionlit under the “Poésie” tab.
