CBC Radio One’s breakout podcast series SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING returns with an all-new second season, beginning today. Hosted by award-winning filmmaker and writer David Ridgen, the new season of the serialized podcast explores the disappearance of Sheryl Sheppard, a young woman who vanished from Hamilton, Ontario in January, 1998.
Each season of the podcast series focuses on a standalone Canadian cold case in an effort to unearth new information that could propel the case forward, while also uncovering how the events have affected the families and communities involved. Season 2 delves into the disappearance of Sheryl Sheppard, a 29-year-old Hamilton woman who went missing in January, 1998. The last person to see Sheppard alive was her fiancé, who had proposed just days earlier during a live television broadcast on New Year’s Eve. On January 2, Sheppard disappeared and no one has seen or heard from her since. Almost 20 years later, listeners will be drawn deep into the mystery, hearing new evidence and first-hand accounts from those tethered to the investigation.
The first season of SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING, which launched in April 2016 and investigated the disappearance of Adrien McNaughton, was recently awarded gold for Best Podcast at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards. Episodes from season 1 of SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING have been downloaded more than 5 million times.
With an aptitude for investigative work and specializing in hard-hitting, point-of-view storytelling, investigator and host Ridgen brings listeners raw accounts on where these cold cases stand today. Educated as a documentary filmmaker, Ridgen began his investigative career with the 2007 documentary Mississippi Cold Case, which led to the second only federal trial of the Ku Klux Klan in US history and the arrest of the guilty party. His recent works have been credited with reopening cold cases and leading to arrests (Confession to Murder and A Garden of Tears), and have also made a progressive impact on the Israel/Palestine conflict (American Radical: The Trials of Norman Finkelstein) and spurred victim reconciliation with perpetrators (Reconciliation in Mississippi).
