CBC and its production partners took home 49 awards, more than any other broadcaster, during The Academy of Canadian Film & Television’s Canadian Screen Award week, which spanned four award galas honouring excellence in scripted, unscripted, documentary, news, sports and digital programming. CBC received 40 awards at galas held earlier in the week and nine awards during the broadcast gala, which aired live on CBC on Sunday, March 12, including wins for CBC SPORTS, FIRSTHAND - GUANTANAMO’S CHILD: OMAR KHADR, KIM’S CONVENIENCE, MURDOCH MYSTERIES, SCHITT’S CREEK and THE TRAGICALLY HIP: A NATIONAL CELEBRATION.

CBC’s Canadian Screen Award highlights:
- CBC’s scripted programming won a total of 16 awards including multiple wins for hit comedy series BARONESS VON SKETCH SHOW, KIM’S CONVENIENCE and SCHITT’S CREEK. MURDOCH MYSTERIES won five awards including the Golden Screen Award for Canada’s Most-Watched TV Drama or Comedy.
- CBC’s unscripted programming earned 11 wins including six awards for last summer’s historic, nation-building concert THE TRAGICALLY HIP: A NATIONAL CELEBRATION and three awards for factual series STILL STANDING.
- CBC NEWS: THE NATIONAL took home five awards including Best National Newscast.

CBC’s acclaimed documentary programming was recognized with eight awards including the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program for FIRSTHAND - GUANTANAMO’S CHILD: OMAR KHADR; the Ted Rogers Best Feature Length Documentary award for I AM THE BLUES; and Best Science or Nature Documentary Program or Series forTHE NATURE OF THINGS - MOOSE: A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF A TWIG EATER.
- CBC Sports took home two awards for its coverage of the RIO 2016 OLYMPIC GAMES, the most-watched summer Olympics in Canadian history, including Best Live Sports Event and Best Sports Host in a Sports Program or Series for Scott Russell.
- CBC's original digital content was honoured with four awards including wins for THE AMAZING GAYL PILE and MY 90-YEAR-OLD ROOMMATE.
