CBC today announced that its critically-acclaimed podcast series Sleepover has returned with a second season of 19 half-hour episodes. With the first three episodes now available at http://www.cbc.ca/radio/sleepover, new episodes will be released each Monday until June 26.
Over the course of three episodes, Sleepover introduces three complete strangers from different generations, cultures, economic backgrounds, and beliefs, who come together for a 24-hour slumber party to help each other with a particular life problem. It’s a compelling social experiment guided by host Sook-Yin Lee, who creates a safe space for guests to show their vulnerabilities and take emotional risks, through discussion and play.
Since its launch in June 2016, Sleepover has been singled out for numerous ‘best of 2016’ lists, including IndieWire, Huffington Post, Audible Feast, NPR, iTunes Canada, and The Audit.
In Season 2, Sleepover goes farther afield, venturing to new cities and locales—from a Vancouver high-rise, to a boathouse in Buckhorn, to a remote island yurt on Salt Spring Island, to reflect and gain a better understanding of Canada’s diverse life experiences.
Season 2’s first stop takes place in a luxury high-rise condo amidst Vancouver’s tent cities, with guests Soheil Biniaz, a self-made millionaire in search of deep connection; Sacha Ouellett, a millennial grappling with leaving her family in pursuit of her artistic dreams; and Tru Wilson, a tween trans girl who fought the Catholic school system and won.
Season 2 podcasts will be released in batches of three episodes per week, so that listeners can binge-listen to a full sleepover at once. The series will also include two solo episodes where Sook-Yin follows up with guests from the first season, and two episodes recorded live at the Hot Docs Podcast festival in Toronto.
When the world is feeling emotionally raw and people seem more divided than ever, Sleepover aims to seek out and demonstrate the possibility of human connection.
