cbc.ca/naig launches today to connect audiences with CBC’s NAIG 2017 multiplatform content

With the Opening Ceremony of the 2017 NORTH AMERICAN INDIGENOUS GAMES (NAIG 2017) in Toronto exactly one month away today, CBC has launched a one-stop online portal at cbc.ca/naig that will connect audiences across Canada and worldwide to all of the public broadcaster’s content and coverage leading up to NAIG 2017 over the next month, and throughout the eight-day multi-sport and cultural event from July 16-23.
As Premier Media Partner of NAIG 2017, CBC will offer a wide range of content at cbc.ca/naig from CBC News’ Indigenous Unit, CBC Sports, CBC Radio, CBC Arts and CBC Kids, including original journalism, documentary storytelling and news coverage; special video and audio programming including sports features; and social media content. Once the Games begin, the portal will serve as the primary home for CBC’s live and on-demand streaming competition coverage, schedules and a live blog that will provide up-to-the-minute news and notes from CBC teams in the field at NAIG 2017 sporting events and cultural activities taking place each day.
The cbc.ca/naig portal launches today with an in-depth look at the 2017 NORTH AMERICAN INDIGENOUS GAMES, providing insight on the cultural impact of the Games as well as a preview of the events to come. The site will also offer livestream coverage of the NAIG 2017 medal unveiling at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET (10:30 a.m. PT) today.
CBC/Radio-Canada is the Premier Media Partner of the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games, and will offer more access to the Games than ever before through an unprecedented level of coverage across multiple platforms and programming areas. During NAIG 2017, more than 5,000 Indigenous young people aged 13–19 are expected to participate in teams representing all 13 provinces and territories in Canada and up to 13 regions in the U.S.
About the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games
From July 16-23, 2017, the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) will welcome more than 5,000 participants, 2,000 volunteers and countless spectators from across North America. Sport and cultural venues include City of Toronto facilities, Humber College, McMaster University, York University, University of Toronto Scarborough, City of Hamilton venues, and venues within Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. A total of 14 sports will be offered for competition during the event, in addition to week-long cultural festivals, featuring programming such as traditional teachings, Indigenous artists, vendors and cultural performers.
