SEASON TWO OF CBC’S AWARD-WINNING HIT COMEDY KIM’S CONVENIENCE NOW IN PRODUCTION

TORONTO - Thunderbird, in association with Soulpepper, is pleased to announce that production has begun on the second season of CBC’s award-winning hit comedy, KIM’S CONVENIENCE. Filming of the new 13-episode season began last week and continues until September 8 for broadcast on CBC this fall.

Nominated for 11 Canadian Screen Awards, the first season of KIM’S CONVENIENCE became an instant critical and audience favourite on CBC on Tuesday nights last fall, and was the most-watched new Canadian comedy series in the country.* Based on Ins Choi’s award-winning play, the series stars Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who was awarded Best Actor in a comedy series at the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards for his performance as Appa. The series also stars Jean Yoon (Orphan Black, The Expanse) as Umma, Simu Liu (Blood and Water, Taken) as Jung, Andrea Bang (Sunnyhearts Community Centre) as Janet, Andrew Phung (The Beaverton) as Kimchee, and Nicole Power ( Anne of Green Gables) as Shannon.

The series is currently on a one-week hiatus from filming so that stars Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Jean Yoon and playwright and series co-creator Ins Choi could take the successful stage version of Kim’s Convenience to New York City for its U.S. premiere on July 1.

KIM’S CONVENIENCE is produced by Ivan Fecan and co-created by Ins Choi and Kevin White. Executive producers are Ivan Fecan, Tim Gamble, Alexandra Raffé, Leslie Lester, Albert Schultz, Ins Choi and Kevin White. Supervising Producers are Sandra Cunningham and Robin Cass.
