CBC Radio One Launches BC Today

Michelle Eliot takes the helm as the new host

CBC Vancouver today announced a revitalized midday province wide call-in show, BC Today, hosted by Michelle Eliot. Every week day at noon PT and 1:00 p.m. MT, Michelle Eliot delves into the top story for the province in an interactive hour of conversation. Listeners from across B.C. are invited to have their say on the top issue of the day on the open line and on social media.

Previously called B.C. Almanac, the show’s format has been redesigned. Listeners will now spend a full hour discussing the top story of the day instead of two topics. The extra time will allow for more diverse voices and vibrant perspectives from local and urban communities.

“We are so pleased to have Michelle lead one of our B.C. wide radio shows,” says Shiral Tobin Director, Journalism and Programming. “Our audience knows she's a solid, trusted, experienced journalist, and she also has a vibrant personality with immense empathy. She cares. She's invested in our audience and the province. While she’s a tenacious journalist, she's also a lot of fun and is great company in the midday.”

Eliot is no stranger to CBC Radio One listeners. She has regularly guest hosted on regional and national programs, interviewing community members and prominent politicians, as well authors and musicians such as Douglas Coupland and Bif Naked. She has also been recognized by the RTDNA and the Jack Webster Foundation, winning awards for her team’s coverage of the ongoing overdose crisis and the 2017 NDP and Green Party deal.

“I’m thrilled to be the new host of CBC’s midday show in B.C., and I’m excited to to start a fresh new show and pursue new ideas and ways to engage our audience,” says Eliot, host of BC Today. “I want to broaden the scope of our conversation and hear from more callers from all parts of the province, and incorporate feedback from social media. This is the show that is the voice of British Columbians - and we are going to hear more of those voices.”

BC Today is where British Columbians connect on issues facing their lives and their community.  Every week day at noon PT and 1pm MT, BC Today host Michelle Eliot delves into the top story for the province in a vibrant, interactive hour of conversation, in which listeners are invited to have their say on the open line (1-800-825-5950) and on social media @BCToday.

From hard hitting questions about B.C.’s economy, environmental protection and Indigenous rights to discussions over affordable housing, investment and the immigrant experience, BC Today is the place where British Columbians can speak their minds and have their voices be heard. It’s a conversation for all and a place where urban and rural residents can sit together and debate what matters today. For more information on CBC in B.C., visit cbc.ca/bc.
