NEW NATIONAL BUSINESS SHOW FROM CALGARY - THE COST OF LIVING - TO LAUNCH ON CBC RADIO ONE THIS FALL

New weekly radio show will be hosted by CBC business reporter Paul Haavardsrud

CBC today announced that THE COST OF LIVING, a new national business show hosted by Paul Haavardsrud, will debut on CBC RADIO ONE on Saturday, September 7 at 11:30 a.m. (12 p.m. NT). Produced out of CBC in Calgary, the weekly 30-minute show will cover the country’s most compelling business and economics stories, and demonstrate how they intersect with the lives of Canadians. Haavardsrud will bring together a diverse range of voices from across the country to offer listeners an in-depth conversation on each topic from varying points of view.

“The Cost of Living is part of CBC’s commitment to better reflect a wider range of experiences and perspectives from across the country, which includes developing and producing the show out of Calgary,” said Susan Marjetti, Executive Director of CBC Radio and Audio. “Paul’s depth of experience as a business reporter and ability to engage Canadians in the economic issues that affect their lives will strike a chord with audiences nationwide.”

Added Haavardsrud, "It's easy to remember when business was confined to a section of the newspaper or a segment on the evening news, but that time is gone. Listeners have a new appetite for stories that dig into how economics, business and the world of money affects each of them. It feels like the timing and opportunity for us to bring this show to Canadians couldn't be better and we can't wait for September to get here, so we can all share those stories together."

THE COST OF LIVING will go beyond the standard facts, figures and stock market jargon to analyze how real business stories affect the day-to-day lives of Canadians across the country. Topics will range anywhere from the ways cities are adapting for Uber and the effects of trade on grocery store pricing, to music streaming royalties, Bitcoin, open concept offices, and beyond.

Since 2010, Haavardsrud has been heard on CBC Radio One as a business reporter for current affair shows across the country. Before then, his work could be found in the Financial Post, Dow Jones, and the Calgary Herald.
