NEW CBC ORIGINAL DOCSERIES JENSPLAINING, HOSTED BY “TWITTER’S RESIDENT GYNECOLOGIST” DR. JEN GUNTER LAUNCHES AUGUST 23 ON CBC GEM

New, 10-part CBC original docuseries JENSPLAINING (10X12), hosted by unapologetic and iconic women’s health expert, Dr. Jen Gunter launches August 23 on the free CBC Gem streaming service. Produced by Peacock Alley Entertainment, JENSPLAINING harnesses Gunter's medical point of view as she continues her pursuit to eradicate unproven wellness claims and the spread of misinformation that stem from anti-vaccine groups, celebrity beauty products, anti-feminine hygiene hysteria and more.

"As far as medicine and the Internet are concerned, we have skipped through the era of information and are stuck squarely in the age of misinformation,” said Dr. Gunter. “Everyone suffers, but women especially as many topics that matter to them are also burdened by patriarchal taboo. Jensplaining is my antidote. I'm shining a light on the medical subjects people want to talk about, but have trouble starting the conversation. Nothing makes me blush. Come for the science, stay for the sex. Come for the sex, stay for the science."

“The Twitterverse has crowned Dr. Gunter its Resident Gynecologist. Jen is a fierce advocate of fact-based medicine over celebrity pseudo-science,” said Carrie Mudd, President, Peacock Alley Entertainment. “It’s an important series given how little global content exists that explores what has become an epidemic of dishonest misinformation about women’s health, sex and science. We’re thrilled to partner with CBC on Jensplaining.”

Named by Chatelaine Magazine as one of their “ Women of the Year ” in 2018, Dr. Gunter is an obstetrician-gynecologist who aims to create a “better medical Internet.” Whether she is taking down Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand, Goop, for its ode to vaginal steaming or other outlandish claims available on the World Wide Web like womb detox pearls, the JENSPLAINING host combines scientific facts and wit to candidly challenge unproven health and wellness claims and products. In the online world, her posts spread quickly and often. In 2018, with 106,000 followers on Twitter alone, Dr. Gunter’s posts reached 15.6 million feeds. She is a regular columnist and expert for prominent North American media outlets, including The New York Times, Chatelaine, CBC and more. In addition to JENSPLAINING, Dr. Gunter is the author of The Vagina Bible to be published on August 31, 2019.

JENSPLAINING is the first digital series produced by Peacock Alley Entertainment, and the second series the prodco has delivered to tackle health and wellness-related topics. A User’s Guide to Cheating Death, hosted by charismatic science geek and social provocateur, Timothy Caulfield, is an international hit available on Netflix in North America, Vision TV in Canada and in 67 territories including Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Africa, India, much of Europe and Asia.

CBC Gem offers more than 4000 hours of live and on-demand programming including more than 750 documentary titles. The streaming service also offers the ability to live stream CBC TV at any time with access to 14 CBC channels and their local newscasts across the country. CBC Gem is available for free as an App for iOS and Android devices and online at cbcgem.ca, and is currently available on TV screens via Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV.
