CBC Sports celebrates the summer pastime of baseball by offering live coverage of every game from the 2019 LITTLE LEAGUE® CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP. Teams from across the country will compete August 1–10 in Ancaster, Ontario for the national title and the right to represent Canada at the Little League Baseball® World Series. CBC Sports will offer live streams of each game from the seven-team tournament at cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices, with the semifinal and final games to also be broadcast August 9–10 on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service. Seven teams made up of players ranging in age from 10–12 years will take part in the tournament, representing the British Columbia, Alberta, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic regions, plus the host team from Ancaster. CBC Sports’ live-streaming coverage will include three round-robin games daily from Aug. 1–7, followed by the two semifinal games on August 9 and the final on August 10 which will also be broadcast on CBC. Viewers can add calendar reminders of CBC Sports’ live coverage directly to their mobile devices through calendar integration tool CalReply.
All live streams as well as broadcast coverage of the semifinal and final games will feature play-by-play commentary from CBC Sports’ Matt Cullen, with colour commentary from Olympic Games baseball player and veteran broadcaster Warren Sawkiw for select games. CBC Sports’ Devin Heroux will join the broadcast team as reporter for the semifinal and final games.
CBC Sports will also offer live-streaming coverage of a Challenger Baseball game on Aug. 9. Challenger Baseball is a program which provides an opportunity for children with cognitive or physical limitations to enjoy the full benefits of participation in baseball at a level structured to their abilities.
CBC Sports recently spoke with the Toronto Blue Jays’ Justin Smoak and Randal Grichuk, and the Cleveland Indians’ Shane Bieber, about their past experiences as Little League players, and those videos will be available at cbcsports.ca. Whalley Little League from Surrey, B.C. went undefeated last year to win the 2018 Canadian Championship, and represented Canada at the Little League Baseball® World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
CBC Sports’ coverage of the 2019 LITTLE LEAGUE® CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP is part of the four-year partnership between CBC Sports, Little League® International and Little League Canada, which gives Canadian audiences prime access to all tournament games through 2020.
