CBC and Accent Entertainment announced today that award-nominated original sketch comedy series TALLBOYZ (8x30) has begun production on its sophomore season, set to premiere on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service in winter 2021.
Measuring in at 25’2” collectively, Guled Abdi, Vance Banzo, Tim Blair and Franco Nguyen return to jab at popular culture from a very tall point of view. This season’s sketches range from silly, absurdist themes, like taking down a buffet or rearing an oil barrel, to hard-hitting examinations of power, privilege, racism, blackface and spicy food. Season two of TallBoyz is shot in Toronto and co-executive produced by Bruce McCulloch (The Kids in the Hall, Young Drunk Punk) and Susan Cavan (The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town, Young Drunk Punk).
“We feel incredibly fortunate and excited to be back in production doing comedy again. The world needs to laugh but more importantly we need to pay off our CRA debts,” said the TallBoyz.
Following the series debut last fall, TALLBOYZ has been recognized with two Canadian Screen Award nominations for Best Sketch Comedy Show & Ensemble Performance and Best Writing, Variety or Sketch Comedy (2020). Collectively, the boys’ credits include Outstanding Comedy Short at 2018 Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, appearances in JFL42, Comedy Brawl, CBC Radio, NOW Magazine and The Colin Mochrie Improvisation Award.
Produced by Accent Entertainment, TALLBOYZ is created by Guled Abdi, Vance Banzo, Tim Blair, and Franco Nguyen, with Adam Bovoletis and Luc Mandl. Bruce McCulloch is Executive Producer, Showrunner and Director, and Susan Cavan is Executive Producer. Paula Smith is Supervising Producer, and Thea Gagliardi is Co-Producer. For CBC, Sally Catto is General Manager, Entertainment, Factual & Sports; Trish Williams is Executive Director, Scripted Content, Michelle Daly is Senior Director, Comedy, Scripted Content.
