CBC Vancouver’s Open House and Food Bank Day Returns December 4 with Virtual Twist

Event supports local food banks and promotes kindness in the community

VANCOUVER, November 12, 2020 – On Friday, December 4, 2020, CBC Vancouver’s annual Open House and Food Bank Day returns with a virtual twist. In keeping with tradition, Open House in Your House will feature a full day of special programming on CBC Radio One in support of Food Banks BC, but new for this year, CBC hosts will be available for virtual Meet and Greets with the public across the province.

Also new for 2020, in addition to raising funds for local food banks, CBC Vancouver will be encouraging acts of kindness in the community to spread goodwill and cheer during an especially challenging holiday season.

The public can learn about the days’ programming, sign up for a digital Meet and Greet and learn about the Act of Kindness contest at cbc.ca/foodbankday.

While visiting the CBC Vancouver broadcast centre is a special holiday tradition in the community, in adherence to physical distancing protocols and to promote public safety, the CBC Vancouver building will not be open to the public for tours or live broadcasts this year.

“COVID-19 has impacted all of our lives and many British Columbians are hurting more than ever. That's why it is especially important this year that we support the spirit of giving and kindness,” says Johnny Michel, senior managing director, CBC British Columbia and Alberta. “We also know for many, a big part of Open House is the opportunity to connect with their favourite CBC hosts. We are so happy to be able to continue this tradition this year through our digital meet and greets. It’s going to be a great day!”
