...fan favourite Aba Amuquandoh joins the series cast
Iconic comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes returns to CBC for its groundbreaking 29th season this fall with an expanded order (24x30). Season 29 also sees the show moving to the 8:00pm (8:30 NT) timeslot on Tuesday evenings, premiering September 14, 2021 on CBC and CBC Gem.
These announcements come on the heels of an exciting season that focused on navigating through an accelerated news cycle amidst a global pandemic, a contentious U.S. election, and the rollercoaster political landscape here at home. Armed with razor-sharp commentary, critical savvy, and incisive social satire, 22 Minutes helped guide Canadian viewers through extraordinary times.
Starring Mark Critch and Trent McClellan, the upcoming season also welcomes Aba Amuquandoh to the show as an official cast member. Appearing on 22 Minutes last season as a featured player, the Toronto comedian became an instant favourite garnering acclaim from the fans, the media, and the comedy community. Ahead of the Season 29 premiere, the show will also be holding auditions for a fourth series regular who will be added to 22’s roster.
22 Minutes remains an enduring staple for audiences across the country and is the longest-running comedy in Canadian history. With a legacy that has spanned nearly three decades, its reach has also expanded beyond the airwaves to cultivate a large and dedicated online following. Over the course of Season 28, virtual content delivered directly to fans and shared across the show’s social media platforms received more than 32 million views, generated over 100 million impressions, and resulted in nearly 10 million engagements.
Filmed in Halifax at its new home in the Light House Arts Centre, 22 Minutes has called Nova Scotia home for the duration of its lengthy and storied run. In spite of a global pandemic, the province has experienced a noteworthy film sector boom over the last year. Against this backdrop, and equipped with their integral and experienced crew, the series is primed to take on the upcoming expanded order.
22M-Hour Productions (NS) 29 Inc. is produced by IoM Media (Executive Producers Mike Allison and Michael Donovan; Producers Meaghan Clark, Carl Gosine, Tracey Jardine, and Dana Landry). The series is written by Mark Critch; Trent McClellan; Aba Amuquandoh; Heidi Brander; Leonard Chan; Adam Christie; Jordan Foisy; Aisha Brown; Jeremy Woodcock; Nigel Grinstead; Meg MacKay; Travis Lindsay; Brandon Ash Mohammed; and Chris Wilson.
