CBC SPORTS TO PROVIDE EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE OF 2021 SKATE CANADA INTERNATIONAL, OCT 29-31

Canadian figure skaters Tessa Virtue, Patrick Chan and Meagan Duhamel join CBC Sports broadcast team as special analysts 

CBC Sports digital series THAT FIGURE SKATING SHOW hosted by Dylan Moscovitch and Asher Hill returns with new episodes weekly 

This weekend, CBC Sports is bringing live figure skating back to audiences across the country with exclusive broadcast coverage of 2021 SKATE CANADA INTERNATIONAL beginning Saturday, Oct. 30 at 3 pm ET (12 pm PT) on CBC TV and the free CBC Gem streaming service. Taking place at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver, the event runs from Friday, Oct. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 31.  Live streams of every competition will be available at cbcsports.ca/figureskating and on the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices. CBC’s coverage of SKATE CANADA INTERNATIONAL as part of the weekly ROAD TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES broadcast will be led by hosts Andi Petrillo from Vancouver and Scott Russell in Toronto. Petrillo will be joined in Vancouver by three-time Olympic medallist Patrick Chan. Brenda Irving and four-time World Champion Kurt Browning will provide play-by-play and analysis, respectively, and will be joined by three- time Olympic medallist Meagan Duhamel for pairs events, and five-time Olympic medallist Tessa Virtue for further analysis of the ice dancing program. 

2021 SKATE CANADA INTERNATIONAL is the second of six international senior invitational events in the 2021-22 Grand Prix Series, which culminates with the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Osaka, Japan from Thursday, Dec. 9 to Sunday, Dec. 12.  The competition consists of nine events, including the men’s, women’s and pair’s short and free programs, the ice dancing rhythm and free dances, and the Exhibition Gala. 18 skaters will be representing Canada. This event coincides with a new season of CBC Sports THAT FIGURE SKATING SHOW. With all eyes on the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, hosts Asher Hill and Dylan Moscovitch cover all the Grand Prix events and major storylines heading into Beijing. The season kicks off on Sunday on the CBC Sports YouTube page, where audiences can get all the news, highlights, insider-knowledge, hot takes and comedic analysis that only Hill and Moscovitch can deliver. THAT FIGURE SKATING SHOW will continue throughout the 2021-22 figure skating season.
