Richmond, British Columbia resident Caron Lau leaves the tent this week
The Baking Tent got festive for the first-ever Celebration Week on THE GREAT CANADIAN BAKING SHOW. Special Occasion Éclairs were first up in the Signature Bake, with the French pâtisserie classic decorated for any celebratory occasion that the bakers choux-se. The judges spooked all the bakers with a seasonal Technical Challenge: the tricky Spiderweb Mirror Glaze Cake, a timely treat for All Hallows’ Eve. The bakers then headed to the altar with a Showstopping Meringue Wedding Centrepiece using multiple meringue-based desserts fit for matrimony. Richmond, British Columbia resident Caron Lau, 26, became the third baker to leave the tent this season. Meanwhile, Vincent Chan, 55, from Toronto, Ontario was crowned Star Baker.
As Lau leaves the tent, the following bakers remain:
- Aimee DeCruyenaere, 23, an industrial design student from Ottawa, ON
- Alina Fintineanu, 30, an orthodontic dental hygienist from Toronto, ON
- Amanda Muirhead, 45, a paralegal from Westmoreland, P.E.I.
- Dougal Nolan, 31, a mental health researcher from Dartmouth, N.S.
- Stephen Nhan, 30, a health administrator from Regina, SK
- Steve Levitt, 54, a small business owner from Aurora, ON
- Vincent Chan, 55, a graphic designer from Toronto, ON
In next week’s episode of THE GREAT CANADIAN BAKING SHOW, the seven remaining bakers must prove they can rise to the occasion during Bread Week, airing next Sunday, November 7 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service.
The series is based on the beloved British format. Each episode features the bakers competing in three challenges – the Signature Bake, the Technical Bake, and the Show Stopper – during which they rely on their personal interests and backgrounds to ensure that their delectable dishes stand out. Once their sweet creations have been tasted and critiqued, the judges decide who will be the week’s Star Baker and who will be sent home. In the final episode, the remaining three bakers face off for the title of Canada’s best amateur baker.
