CBC REBOOTS STREET CENTS FOR A NEW GENERATION

Teen-focused financial literacy brand has launched on TikTok

CBC today announced the return of STREET CENTS in a new format, led by a group of dynamic content creators. Targeted to teens, the new version of the beloved youth brand has launched on TikTok with a focus on making financial literacy useful, relatable and entertaining through daily short form video content.

Street Cents is an iconic Canadian brand and we couldn’t be more excited to introduce it to a new generation on a new platform,” said Sally Catto, General Manager, Entertainment, Factual & Sports, CBC. “Street Cents frames financial literacy in a fun and age-appropriate context, helping to make money stuff make sense for teens. This is CBC’s first launch of an original content series on TikTok, and we’ve brought in a great team of creators who speak with authenticity and credibility to teen audiences.”

Mercedes Gaztambide, Anisha Joshi, Carley Thorne and Creo Walters are the collective face of STREET CENTS, creating a variety of comedic and journalistic short-form video content on a daily basis. Together, they will inspire critical thinking about spending, saving and earning. In addition to the core team, guest contributors will be welcomed in the coming weeks and months to provide even more diverse perspectives on the types of financial questions and topics important to teens.

With TikTok as its primary platform, STREET CENTS will connect directly with its audience to act on feedback and react to trends, offering teens a space to feel heard while being entertained. In addition to TikTok, the content will be repurposed to other platforms including Instagram and YouTube.

STREET CENTS will follow in the footsteps of the award-winning 1990s/early 2000s TV series of the same name by remaining rooted in facts and authentic journalism while embracing a curious, critical yet humourous point of view.
