CBC Sports today announced its plans to bring Canadians all of the action from the pool at the 19th FINA World Championships, taking place in Budapest, Hungary from Saturday, June 18 through Sunday, July 3, and featuring the aquatics disciplines of swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, and open water swimming. Viewers can watch the live events via streaming available on cbcsports.ca, the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android devices, and CBC Gem, with extensive broadcast coverage on CBC TV and CBC Gem as part of CBC Sports weekend programming throughout the competition. CBC Sports broadcast coverage kicks off on Saturday, June 18 at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT) on CBC TV and CBC Gem, with hosts Andi Petrillo and Scott Russell breaking down the first day’s swimming action. Paralympian Rob Snoek and Olympian Byron MacDonald will provide commentary for the events, with Olympic medallist Brittany MacLean in the role of special analyst for the swimming competitions, and four-time Olympic medallist Émilie Heymans stepping in for the diving events. CBC Sports’ Brenda Irving will offer poolside coverage from Budapest.

Almost a year after thrilling the country by racking up six medals at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Canada’s swimmers return to the pool this week for their first major events since those Games. A fulsome team of 32 swimmers will represent Canada, including past world championship medallists Javier Acevedo, Eric Hedlin, Yuri Kisil, Maggie Mac Neil, Kylie Masse, Penny Oleksiak, Sydney Pickrem, Taylor Ruck, Kayla Sanchez and Rebecca Smith. The fourteen world championship rookies representing Canada include Olympians Katrina Bellio, Tessa Cieplucha, Ruslan Gaziev, Finlay Knox, and Summer McIntosh. CBC Sports spoke with Canada’s most decorated Olympian Penny Oleksiak about what she is hoping to achieve at the FINA World Championships.

Budapest previously hosted the FINA World Championships in 2017, and the 2022 edition of the FINA World Championships is the first of four being held over the next four years.
