With the fourth season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) just over halfway complete, the CEBL and CBC Sports announced Thursday that 10 of its 2022 regular season and playoff games will air nationally on CBC TV and CBC Gem as part of CBC Sports weekend programming.
The broadcast schedule includes five regular season contests with the first game taking place in Scarborough this weekend. The telecast will showcase the CEBL’s latest expansion teams when the Montréal Alliance face off against the Scarborough Shooting Stars at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 3. Other broadcasts include the two-time and current CEBL champion Edmonton Stingers hosting the Hamilton Honey Badgers at 4 p.m. ET (2 p.m. MT) on Saturday, July 9; the Fraser Valley Bandits taking on the Ottawa BlackJacks at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT) on Sunday, July 17; Edmonton hosting the Guelph Nighthawks at 2 p.m. ET (12 p.m. MT) on Saturday, July 23; and the Newfoundland Growlers visiting Scarborough at 2 p.m. ET (3:30 pm NT) on Sunday, July 31.
For all of CBC’s nationally televised games, Peter Ruttgaizer will handle the play-by-play, alongside Joe Raso who will provide the in-game analysis. Joining them will be Toronto Raptors host and Raptors 905 analyst Amy Audibert as sideline reporter. CBC Sports’ Scott Russell and Andi Petrillo will split hosting duties for the live broadcasts with Russell taking the reins for the July 3 contest.
As part of its playoff coverage, CBC Sports will also broadcast the quarterfinal games on Sunday, August 7, semifinal games on Friday, August 12, and the Championship game on Sunday, August 14. For the complete broadcast and streaming schedule, click here.
Fans will also be able to live stream all regular season games on CEBL’s OTT streaming service CEBL+, the CEBL’s official app, CEBL Mobile for iOS and Android devices, cbcsports.ca, the free CBC Gem streaming service, and the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android devices.
The semifinals and Championship game will be part of CEBL Championship Weekend, which takes place in Ottawa, August 12-14. Host Ottawa will automatically be seeded into Championship Weekend, as will the team with the best regular season record (or second-best record should Ottawa finish with the best record). New this year is the addition of post-season play-in games that will feature the teams ranked fifth through eighth in the final regular season standings. The play-in games will be held August 4-5 at the site of the higher seeded team, with the winners advancing to the quarterfinals August 7. A league created by Canadians for Canadians, the CEBL has the highest percentage of Canadian players of any professional league in the country, with 70 percent of its current rosters being Canadians. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international leagues, the Canadian National team program, and top NCAA programs as well as U SPORTS.
