Annual event raises over $1.8 million dollars for local food banks
Vancouver, B.C. – The holiday spirit was in full swing this weekend as British Columbians donated to food banks across B.C. for CBC British Columbuia’s Food Bank Day. The annual event raised $1,874,841.43 for local food banks as of today with donations open until the end of the month.
CBC British Columbia had special programming throughout the day featuring stories about the impact of food banks across B.C. and the many individuals that rely on them. As part of a gradual return towards in-person events, this year, the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre opened its doors to intimate, live studio audiences for live broadcasts of local CBC Radio One programs.
“Food Bank Day is the most inspiring, heart-warming day of the year at CBC British Columbia and we always look forward to giving back to the communities we serve,” says Johnny Michel, senior managing director, CBC British Columbia and Alberta. “Year after year, we are amazed by people’s generosity, particularly during a time of year that can be challenging for many British Columbians.”
For 36 years, British Columbians have been donating to food banks at CBC/Radio-Canada's annual Food Bank Day, raising more than $17 million for food banks in B.C. since its humble inception in 1986. The public can continue to donate to their local food bank at cbc.ca/foodbankday until the end of the month.
